attic grow ventilation idea

I'm a newbie and am beginning an attic grow. One of my biggest concerns is ventilation for both heat and odor. My plan is to run a 400 watt ventable light. I've so far sealed off the section I will be growing in and have a roof vent real close to my ceiling.

So my idea is; to run a carbon scrubber, inline fan, ventilated hood all ducted together to exit out the roof vent. Thinking that this will solve both heat and odor problems. The part I'm not sure on how to make work the best is the intake into the grow section (and the sequence of the components).

The best idea I've came up with is to duct in from the other roof vent on the opposite side of the attic.

I would really like to avoid cutting a hole in the ceiling for an intake. My access hole is the only other thought I have besides cutting.. and would like to avoid having that open all the time. Would kinda make the whole secretive attic operation pretty obvious.

Thoughts on this? Anyone done a setup like this?

This is not your only option, but I believe it to be viable. If you were to exhaust the room as described above, it would create a negative pressure atmosphere in the room and you could get away with doing just that! The fan will suck the air from the room outside, but also pull air in from other openings and crevices. It should work fine, but please note that when you start playing with active intake and active exhausts... the math gets kind of crazy. I prefer to have an active exhaust and not worry about an intake.

Sounds like you have a great environment to grow in!! With winter coming up, I wouldn't stress about heat TOO awfully much... I'm actually anticipating it so I can have more control!!!

Well all that is fine and dandy, but up in an attic I doubt odor would be an issue. Your issue is heat on a sunny day, temps could go well over 140 degrees. Even with a good, and I mean really good attic fan you will be lucky to stay within 20 degrees of outdoor temps. It can go well over 160 in an attic on a sunny day. I suggest you reconsider.

I agree with WashougalWonder 110%, and neither one of us live in a hot climate! Go anywhere, but not in the attic.

Even if you used an airconditioner,it would condensate and mold would be an issue at that point. Just vent into the attic in the summer and grow in the attic in the winter.
