Mass Question 2 retroactive?
I was recently caught smoking in public, ive smoked there a bunch of times and id never even seen a cop around. Luckily he let me off, but with a catch. A narcotics unit is going to call me in a few days and they want the name of a drug dealer and possibly some other information.
Its my guess that if i dont give them satisfactory info, i will be charged with possesion. This is devastating because i am going to school for electrical engineering and im thinking it could be tough to get a job with a CORI record.
But then i thought of mass ballot initiative 2 which would lower possession of an ounce or less from a misdemeanor to a civil crime punishable by a $100 fine and absolutely no record. So if i was lucky, maybe i wont be charged at all, but if i am and then 2 passes before im actually sentenced, will the penalty be switched to the fine? what about if its after im sentenced? Any idea what i should say to the cops when they call me (should be in about a day or 2)?

Mass Question 2 retroactive?
Rule #1:
Never snitch.
Rule #2:
Never snitch.
You wanna know rule #3?
Listen here. Simple possession is not a big deal, and the officer SHOULD have arrested you on the spot if he was going to do it at all. (Your attorney will handle that). Next, the cops do NOT have the authority to make deals with you. The DA is the one who does that- NOT narc officers. Also, judges scorn snitches as much as the rest of the world and don't believe otherwise. Last, just say it was a roach you found sitting on a building windowsill and you simply couldn't leave it there in case a young kid saw it and smoked it, so you smoked it. Stupid story, but better than being a narc.
Very likely the whole thing is just going to go away, and I wouldn't be surprised if you don't hear from the cop, and he was just fucking with you to make you scrrrd for a few days. Did he actually TAKE the weed you had and package it as evidence? Honestly cops have a lot better things to do than bust kids for a lit joint; sure it happens all the time, but not like, they catch you one day and then spend a week building up paperwork and involve all these special units to come after you later...
Either way, this is something you should call an attorney about. CALL AN ATTORNEY.
I might also remind you here, that any dealer who minds his shit also protects his shit. Possession does not involve jail time for a lit joint, seriously- you will at worst get probation and a slap on the wrist. What's worse is getting the living SHIT kicked out of you when your guy, or worse, your guy's guy, finds out why he was just raided...
CORI is most damaging when you are trying to be a teacher or something. Engineering jobs require outstanding grades and good reviews from your internships/research assistantships. I have an interesting CORI of my own (charged with 2 felonies and didn't snitch on the person who accused me, and took heat that should have come down on someone else- the judge kinda knew what was up and knew I wasn't a rat, or really the guilty party in the affair, and I didn't serve a minute of the 3.5 year jail term I was looking at). It's not the end of the world and you can get your file sealed later so that only the police can see that record, not prospective employers.
Man up- if you're ballsy enough to smoke in public, you're ballsy enough to take the heat. Otherwise you're just playing like you're hard.

listen to stinky!!! i had this pulled on me, in a dog park smoking a jay with my lady and our pup. but he wanted a drug dealers name right there real gung-ho about the situation, i told him the address of my last NA office, he called back not stoked but since he was trying yo make a "deal" or what ever he couldn't make the collar after the fact, i guess. and i didn't have id on me which helped. dont SNITCH. dont be apart of a community if you cant live by its rules. good luck.

Mass Question 2 retroactive?
i guess i shouldve clarified, it was a 6" bong we were smoking out of and about 1.5g (both were taken, but we were released on spot, the officer took down our cell #s). do you think if they actually call i could get away with just a first name, say i only met him once or something? I was never planning on snitching but im really worried here. The wait is whats killing me. I already threw up twice this morning, ive never been in serious trouble before.
And nobody knows if question 2 is retroactive?
thanks for all your help so far, i hope you can give me a little more advice
also i forgot to mention im pretty sure he wasnt gonna charge for paraphenelia, he only threatened to charge us for possession.

never seen a 6inch bong b4. i should stress, can they even get you in trouble after the fact like that? i mean what does the cop write on his report, "i waited 3 days to see if he would snitch on anyone but he didn't so i charged him" i cant see that working out well for him, i might be wrong though. he has your cell and that it? dont stress bud take a rip from that 6 footer? and tell the narc team to go sit in the projects and bust the crack dealers that are ruining kids lives.

Are you seriously asking us if you should give your dealer's first name? NO!
NO NO NO NON O.
NO!
Why haven't you called an attorney yet if you're REALLY that scrrrd (I'fn yer scrrd, go to church)? Go over to student legal services NOW for free advice. That's what they are there for. Room 922 Campus Center. They have a website that you can get to only through the 'offices and services a-z' page, under 's'.
Throwing up is all part of your favorite Dining Commons' certain je ne sais quois. It's delicious, yet bacterial! Pair with a nice chablis, preferably out of a cardboard box. Breakfast of champions.
Why in the fucking FUCK were you smoking a bong outdoors? Maaaaaaan... you engineers... gotta technicalize everything.
But seriously. Don't do the crime if you can't do the time. What do we learn? Smoke a JOINT, that can be flicked down the storm drain.
