I'm a Buddhist, specialising in the historical development of things like chakras in modern thought. Chakra 'healing' is primarily Tibetan Buddhist/Bon, with some references in Shivaism and the Upanisads. However, most of what is thought as valid chakra work here in the West doesn't actually have any ancient basis at all, and was in fact invented by Theosophy (particularly a loon called Rev. Leadbeater, who lied through his teeth about all manner of things paranormal) just over a hundred years ago. There are no planets, incenses, illnesses, crystals, etc., etc., with connections to chakras anywhere to be found in the original chakra systems, which worked perfectly well for over 3,000 years until Theosophy came along.

Almost every single modern book you can find on the subject propagates Theosophical ideas on the subject, and not authentic traditions. Even the third-eye was invented by Theosophy (Blavatsky) and it too has no connections in either Hinduism or Buddhism.

Theosophy is a mass of racist lies and distortions, and has shown to be such tens of times over the years, but it still influences our ideas, regardless.
