Hi Everyone~!!
I suffer from stage 4 (extensive) small cell lung cancer as well (is his small cell or non-small cell?)
I've found cannabis to help a fair amount with my nausea etc with chemo. I asked my cancer doc one day about his thoughts on "medical marijuana" and he gave me an interesting answer.
He said he felt the mj COULD have a place in cancer therapy......but he doubts this will happen for several reasons; among them (being his largest issue) is regulating mj......or standardizing it if you will. Because everyone "grows their own" there is really no way to tell if there are proper "theraputic levels" in your weed, not to mention possible pesticides etc being used if you bought rather than grow your own. He feels this is a very large issue regarding mmj and I agree he has an excellent point. That's why I don't see a huge shift towards mmj in cancer treatment and doubt it will happen anytime really soon.
THAT BEING SAID........I use plenty off mj daily and have VERY VERY few problems with nausea and vomiting during my chemo. I strongly PERSONALLY believe that this is due to the ganja. I do still use my standard nausea meds......but need less of it than normal and get a better effect when used together with mj......MY OPINION ONLY!
I don't smoke it......and I suggest your grandfather not suck anything into his lungs either. But you can cook with it, or make a tincture and these are all ways to use it without further trashing the lungs. I've found it creates a synergesic effect with my other meds.....using a bit of the mmj means I can use less of the stronger prescriptions and get a better response.
Please understand that I speak for myself only and am NOT telling you what to do with your grandfather. I'm simply relating my experience.
PS.....Tell your grandfather to get mad and fight!! Beat that cancer sucker back!! It CAN be done.
Good luck.
