I cant get anything to grow

Ive been reading up a ton on all the facts etc.

Here is what Im working with/what ive done so far:
    Seeds(mids)
I didnt want to buy a whole bag of dirt so I bought a tomato plant and used its soil
I keep the dirt damp not too wet
I put the seeds in the dirt about half an inch
Tried to germinate seeds but nothing happened. Also planted seeds without trying to germinate them
Plant is inside by the window. Gets daylight and complete darkness
Ceiling fan normally stays on with the temp varying from 70-80 degrees

I dont know what to do
    What am I doing wrong?

How did you try to germ.?

You may want to buy some soil/nutes, get a light.

If you haven't germinated anything, I wonder how you got a plant. But, if you had one, especially a seddling, they need more light than what nature is giving them at this time of year. 18-24 hrs. is prime.

it sounds like you're doing things right. it will pay to buy just plain soil without nutes. young plants don't need them. if you're getting a light, let us know what your setup is. you may need better seeds. if you're trying with bagseed, make sure the seeds are mature. the paper towel method has always worked 100% of the time for me with mature seeds. when you do get germination, plant the taproot down and make sure that the soil stays fairly warm and damp (not wet). get some nutrients and begin giving them 1/8-1/4 strength 3-4 weeks after they've broken the surface of the soil. if you don't have one yet, get a pH up/down/test kit. keep us posted and best of luck!

hmmm. I am using bag seeds
How do you know when they are mature? The seeds are a combination of black or white and big or small
And they are seeds from mids, so its nothing special

Use the larger, darker seeds. Green seeds are immature. Good luck.

    Never plant into used dirt.
A bag of soil costs like 3 bucks.... lights cost more... so do nutes and ventilation and electricity. If you can't afford dirt, you might think about waiting until you are more financially stable to get a grow going.

This will germinate ur seeds everytime. grab a plate (not paper) and rip a couple pieces of paper towls or toliet paper and put them on the plate. Then soak it with water, then just flip the plate and let the excess water fall out then put ur seeds ontop and grab more towels or TP and put them ontop of the seeds, then soak it with water again then flip it and let the excess water fall out. Next put it in a dark place like ur drawer or cabinet. u dont have to put a bag over it. i do this all the time and with good results

keep checking on the seeds everyday to see if they have germinated and make sure the towels are still damp if not add more water but dont drown them. Give it time. sumtimes it takes more than a week. but with that method it should work.
