Personally, ive tried almost about evrything from Home Depot and Lows, Walmart.....you name it with little success......As soon as I switched to professional Hydro Nutes....I started having success grows......Lots of people do it the HD or Lows way...ive just not had much success that way! There is no Hydro Store in your area? or within hours away? You should buy a pre paid CC and try to order.....it will make the job just that much easier!

Depending on the size of your hempy buckets.. if you were using a 3 or 5 gallon bucket, I'd make the hole at least as big as a nickel, maybe even a quarter.
Make sure you put the hole about 2 inches up from the bottom of the bucket.
    Smaller bucket/cup, smaller hole.

I don't know anything about growing hempy buckets so I'll leave that to those who do. Good luck with your growing!

Looks like you have not enough ventilation and not enough aeration to the roots.
I'm not so sure I'd go Hempy for a 1st time grower. Can you take the plant out of the box, get a side shot of the whole thing including pot, and describe the setup- a real hempy bucket is very specific. That looks like not very light soil and possibly a pot with a built-in catch tray- both bad for plants.

Wow, Thank you for your info. Ms. Stinky the pot I have this mystery plant in has a mod. drain setup I flipped the catch can over for some height and drilled holes to drain into a bigger catch can. As far as hempy pots doobster and killa have been a big help, just some minor adjustments and some more reading. This is really nice to see people helping out, w/ all the BS going on in the world. Once again to everyone helping out Thank You.

WOW dooobster thats large.....i always use the standard 1/2 inch hole on all my bucket, but any size is adaqute......and no the rootball is not suppose to float.....i learned this the hard way also.......usually after i mix my perlite/verm and put it in my buckets.....i water the buckets(phed water with a drop of superthrive) without the rooted plant......get runoff.....then drain them......place rootball in buckets....cover with medium.....rewater with nute solution!

And i say Hempy's are perfect for a first time grower......really nothing to them......the soil to hempy does worry me though.....but theres no ppm meters....really the only thing you have to do is water them and check the nute ph.....other than that..... the reasons i think its better because i found it hard to guage nutes in soils.....because most of them have nutes....most of us transplant throught the grows and i find that hard....Second complicated Hydro systems take ppm meter....pumps that clog.....res temps....you name it and it can go wrong.....Now hempys....no pumps....no ppm meter...no res temps to worry about....medium has no nutes so you control the outcome(and if you do make a mistake...the medium holds little or no nute...so fixing them takes days instead of weeks or death)......and honestly this is no offense to Stickyattic and this is no personal stab of any sorts....i love her grows, and her threads are some of the most knowledgable on the net on this subject....so go for what you know.....im sure if you have more questions me or dooobster will be happy to help...

There's no inherent problem with Hempys IF you study the technique BEFORE setting up the grow and follow instructions perfectly. As Killa says, the medium is perlite/vermiculite. One of the things the Hempy style depends on is the pore size in the medium; soil has insufficient pore size. You can't do a flood-n-drain with dirt, either...
I guess I should re-phrase my earlier comment, lol... don't try any sort of unusual method until you know HOW it is different from a pot of dirt and WHY it can actually work.
