Man hit by truck, then ticketed for jaywalking

BOISE, Idaho (AP) - A man who was hit by a truck near the city's downtown was also slapped with a citation. Boise police ticketed Ebrahim Balah, 62, for jaywalking shortly after the accident Wednesday.

Police said Balah suffered minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital as a precaution.

Police said he was hit by a passenger truck while trying to cross a busy one-way street. Officials said the section Balah tried crossing is not a designated walkway and pedestrians are not permitted to cross.

He kinda deserved it for walking in a no-walking area.

That sounds terrible but he is at fault here.

Very true. That's why I dont slow down when people are crossing the street NOT on a crosswalk. If I hit them, thats their own damn fault and I won't feel the slightest bit of guilt. I might even laugh.

"hahahahahaha dude, didn't you see me driving? What? 911? Sorry dude I forgot my phone at home and I'm all outta quarters."

thats a bit cruel and im sorry to say it this way: "ignorant". remember we all make our own mistakes but this plays with a humankind's life and if he/she dies u will be in trouble no matter who is at fault. i bet u have not had any1 u know killing some pedestrian while driving. just go find some1 and ask them.

In many local laws, PEDESTRIANS HAVE THE RIGHT OF WAY. find out about where u live.

PEDS - Who has the Right of Way

to the very least u can count on having to go to court even if u r totally innocent and having to deal with all the legal hassle. Is a slow down not worth it? i leave that judgment up to u

many people are not informed of these laws, thus many pedestrians may violate them and if they get injured u can get lots of trouble even if the law is on your side.

where I live, these are the laws
WikiAnswers - What is the Texas Law for yielding to a pedestrian

and I have had friends of me getting charged with manslaughter for hitting a pedestrian crossing interstate highway 45 in the city and getting shitload of hassle to live with for a while and a psychological take on their minds forever. he was cleared of involuntary manslaughter by jury after some 1 year of messed up life.

its the same way as this: u are allowed to shoot a person to protect your property by Texas law, but is a human life truly worth something just cuz some law says something? (remember people can and do change all the time, thats half of the reason the jail system has the word "corrections" in its title)

In a word, would this be worth it? Totally. That person's genes will hopefully no longer be in the gene pool, and with a little luck the human race will be a little less stupid. It's really simple, actually. Crosswalks are there for a reason; so people can cross the street safely. Pedestrians have the right of way on the crosswalk, not on the street. I ALWAYS use the crosswalk when I'm walking. People who don't are usually really lazy and don't wanna walk up the street another hundred feet to get to a crosswalk. It's such a simple concept that I can't believe people still get hit crossing the street, unless its by a drunk driver or something of the sort.

Also I'm sorry but the Texas gun law thing just isn't applicable here. I probably would shoot the guy in the leg or something, because he made a really bad choice by trying to rob me. However, crossing the street NOT at a crosswalk is simply stupidity.

Most of my friends don't use crosswalks. It's entirely possible one of them will be hit and killed someday. I will grieve and I'll be totally confused and in the worst shape ever. But I'll blame my friend, because it's THEIR fault.

By your logic wouldn't it be the guys fault that he was in the situation where he felt the need to rob you? There are other ways to make money then rob someone. So why would you have a problem with killing him?

I never said I'd DEFINITELY kill the person I hit. Unless I'm driving on the highway, they'll probably survive. I wouldnt try too hard to NOT hit him, but I wouldnt TRY to kill him either. Either way, if they don't move there's gonna be damage.

So, I might kill the person, and probably not feel that bad. If I'm getting robbed, I might kill the person, but at least that guy has a chance to convince me otherwise. The guy jaywalking has about 2 seconds to either get the hell out the way, or get run down.

:S2: dayyyym foooool, show a lil compassion...

lemmie guess, u get involved in road rage often if u r provoked, dont ya?

I would even slow down for a freakin squierrel on the road when as much as its possible.

but i have seen people driving right into these poor animals without smallest of reactions to avoid them with no to minimal risk of any damage to themselves. some people may not lool @ the road and some may just dont care as long as they got the right of way... have had people tell me "dude, when some1 is illegally cuttin u off on a left turn lane or somethin turning suddenly in front of u, dont even slow down, hit them full speed" asked them why, and was told "u get your car totaled, his insurance pays, if u get any injury or even if u dont get any, u can go to doctors and make say that your back hurts or somethin and still get a check from their insurance."

pretty crazy, but one of these people have actually had this happen to him and not even he switched cars, but he got like a 5000 dollar check for medical claims... i donno how it played out, all i know is that i saw the check in his name by the insurance and knew he had his car totaled in an accident caused by some idiot.

that's the ONLY time i support ticketing jaywalkers: when they get hit by traffic.

    otherwise, no harm, no foul!
