    happy frog and light distance

is happy frog okay to use during germination/seedling stage. And for a seedling how far should i place a 400w MH lamp.

I was told when i bought it that happyfrog has special bacteria and things that begin to grow after 2-4 weeks of water and heat.

I haven't used the Happy Frog soil yet, but I've heard that it's great for starting seedlings. I wouldn't use the 400MH lamp for that young of a plant. Try some flouro shop lights or cfl's. If you have to use the MH make sure you keep it at a good distance away as not to fry them, they don't really need intense light while still seedlings. Good luck!

I use HF for my seedlings and have been very happy with it. As soon as they are old enough I switch them for Fox Farm Oceans Forest (usually at about two weeks of age) but Happy Frog has worked very well for me for brand new babies.

Your 400w mh on the other hand........several feet at first. I actually have a 400 amongst some of my lighting and it burned the brand new leaves right off my seedlings from two feet away. So at least three feet or so at first; then work it down slowly.

all good advice, ... Happy Frog is good for the younguns, nice and mild, and you don't need, or want, all that much light to begin with, fluoros are great for vegging seedlings ... you're on the right track ... :smokin:

will the lights being @ 2 feet slow growth if it doesnt burn them... the MH does have a tempered glass sheild to help eliminate the harmful stuff.

Would the lamp being too close cause problems like these.... and leave others looking good and healthy...

Yes you're frying them with the light being too close if you only have Happy Frog in your pots (didn't add anything else to the soil mix did you?)

Those look prettty burned.....hope they make it for you.

The reason the lamp has a shield is that it is intended to be air-cooled, not to block harmful rays- the glass is meant to allow %transmission approaching 100%. You will want to run it air-cooled with a blower that suits the volume of your grow room and heat of your lamps, if exhausting through the hood.

does the glass shield mean i should be using a fan connected to it to keep it cool so it runs at max potential.

actually the ones u commented on were burned by nutrients and possibly both the light at the same time, or the light burned them b/c they got burned w/ nutes... stupid me tried feeding them when they were too small... they're still too small but heres pics of another ICE plants that i didnt burn.. i still have yet to move the lamp.... which is the pic above but burned or something... the one thats yellowish and curled downwards
