you got to want to change, if you just stop smoking you aren't going to suddently want to run a marathon..

if you have a goal in mind, and then take weed out the picture, you may find yourself being able to achieve it more efficiently.

like me, i got a better job.

previously I would just be like.. fuck it and smoke.. when im blazed im not going to be like "ok time to go to an interview"

instead of being like "im bored, ill go get a sack" i was like "hey, i can use this time to go apply places"

    *personal experience*

If you are thinking about quitting or taking a break, let me say, its worth it.

I have only been smoking for about 3 years and it was a good time, weed is amazing.. but I realized I wasn't very productive anymore.

Don't get me wrong, I was still taking care of what I needed to do and I was responsible with my use but upon taking weed out of my life I just felt drastically better. All my friends just sit around and get high all day, from the outside looking in, its pretty pathetic.

Like many of you, I felt like I was still fine and you know "its just weed", but seriously, taking a little break will make you realize that weed does slow you down and holds you back, wether it be school, fitness, relationships, whatever.

I challenge anybody to stop for a week, save money, lower your damn tolerance.

    or not..

just keep staying high.. lol. Just figured I'd share
honestly this is true, i smoke on the daily. But i took a break recently and bein sober for a little does seem to feel good. I can also think clearer and my decisions seem to be made a lot easier. I smoke weed daily still but not like i used to i used to go threw a quarter or more a day. It was rediculous

Billionfold is right Jose. In spite of the fact that an alcoholic and a pothead act much differently the concept is still the same. They are both consuming a drug that might or might not cause them to act differently. Now there are such things as functioning potheads as well as functioning alcoholics but that all depends on who you are. Regardless if you can't stop smoking pot as if your life depended on it then you most certainly have a problem. I realized I was psychologically addicted to pot when I actually risked my entire education by attempting to cheat on a drug test for college and at first it didn't even phase me but the second I almost got caught it shook me up so badly that I finally realized what I had done. Pot is fun and relatively harmless in retrospect to the entire selection of drugs but when you put anything whether its caffine, pot, heroine, Women, video games, etc first before what is really more important to you then I would say you have a problem. Sure its more harmful for someone to be addicted to booze but the tragedy of sucumming to something and placing everything else behind it is the same.

    very nice.

if u feel u get stuck into obsession-like relationships with things u like, u should really setup a system for your brain and have control over your obsessions. and for this very reason, many people CANT and WONT go without weed even for a day

its the addictive (obsessive) behavior thats the main problem of humanity in regards to drugs. all drugs can be taken care of in rehab, but u see many people return to doing them!!!

i think the whole concept of war on drugs should funnel all the money and effort to find ways to fix this issue instead of limiting the supply (not that they do it good, no, just their declared intent) and jailing the addicts/users.

i just smoked for the first time in 75 days. Somehow, my tolerance barely went down.

I promised myself that I would smoke in strict moderation, but then instead of doing that, I decided to just have weekend long binges every 75 days, and not smoke in between.

By doing that, I will satisfy that urge to smoke and get the 'perspective' or insight that comes with infrequent marijuana use. And by taking the 75 day breaks, it will make it so pot doesn't take over my life.

I had no plans on smoking, so it was pretty spontaneous... I had even gone to my 1st M.A. meeting on Tuesday (it was for a Human Drug Use class), which apparently didn't inspire me to stay sober....

By challenging everyone to stop for a week you are assuming everyone smokes more then once a week. There are some of us who smoke once, maybe twice a week. I'm one of them. Right now I'm on a break even from that much (due to relationship problems I won't go into now), and of course I'm not any more productive now then when I was smoking once or twice a week. Why would I be?

Even if I smoked everyday or whatever... brother, weed is what *you* make of it. If you can't help but use it as an excuse to be lazy and do nothing, then that's a problem with *you*, not with weed. Television can be used as an excuse to do nothing too. So can a lot of things. Personally, I can't watch TV because I let it suck me in and I don't do shit with my evenings. That's me. If other people want to watch it... fine. I know people who easily watch one show and then turn it off. I can't do that easily. But that's no reason for me to tell people "TV holds you back". It holds *me* back. I can't fucking stand it. But that's me.

Good Lord, don't blame the weed. And yes, that is what you're doing when you say things like, "weed does slow you down and holds you back." Just acknowledge that you have trouble handling weed, and move on. There's no need to judge the weed. It is just a plant. Judge yourself.

i never thought i would even consider that the grass on the other side is greener, but i havent smoked for days either, and i have had so much money that, that fact alone has made me almost not want to smoke for atleast another paycheck, though at the same time, i want to smoke, its kinda a moral dilemma for me at the moment, spend bday money on some shrubbery, or save it all and have a freaking blast just blowing through money, or use it all for my last car insurance payment, its a tough one, but im glad that there are people who realize that maybe they need to stop for a while, and im also delighted to see people who are able to go on perfectly fine about there life while still smoking, i could do either, i see the values in both at the moment, i only smoked 1 time in the last 10 days, and it wasnt even my weed, so i didnt feel the gravitating effect of just smoking whenever i wanted, and that in itself blows, cause there are tons of things i liked to do high, like eating, it just enhanced all the flavors and aromas, though i already acted a fool infront of the waitress sober, she was just so sneaky, she caught me off guard.

Careful, you sound like your implying many people on this forum are being negatively affected by weed. Just because the people you know are like this doesn't mean it's the same for all people.

IMO this forum has a high % of responsible smokers and others who greatly benefit from MJ for other reasons.

...On the other hand there there are likely people who will read this post who are spending/smoking too much and suffering in other areas... and perhaps they will read this post and benefit. Unlikely, because people like this don't really admit to themselves that there is any problem or they have already decided the costs are worth the benefits.

There is a hint of superiority in your post, in that you have already discovered what we have not. This is not a good method of persuasion because it puts people into defensive thought instead of openness.
