What a MORON my State Rep is!!!!!!! READ!!

I sent the email to my state rep about the legalization of marijuana. I'm going to write this guy back. I have about a millio thigs going throughmy head about what I want to say. Please, I would like some feedback and some good suggestions on what to write back. Here it is:
    Dear Mr. ***:

Thank you for contacting me regarding efforts to achieve legalization of marijuana.

I oppose the legalization of marijuana for three reasons. First, legalization sends a harmful moral message that tends to legitimize drug abuse. The government should not undermine parents' efforts to raise morally discerning children by sending a strong message to teenagers about the acceptability of mind-altering substances.

Second, many people who argue for the legalization of marijuana greatly understate the physiological effects of this drug. The intoxicant in marijuana, THC, appears to have mild effects because it is fat-soluble and slow-acting. However, THC stored in fatty tissue continues to affect the brain for a long time after the "high" wears off. This is why regular pot smokers feel and appear continuously distracted and unfocused. THC can remain in the fat of a regular smoker for months after he quits. This intoxicant can cause serious and lasting harm to the brain, the hormones, the lungs, and the reproductive organs of a smoker.

Third, and most importantly, I oppose the legalization of marijuana because it is a gateway drug. While not all pot smokers go on to use harder drugs, virtually everyone who abuses cocaine or heroine begins by smoking marijuana. In the Netherlands, the liberalization of drug laws has resulted in the proliferation of harder drugs, prostitution, and violent crime as users seek greater highs and new ways to feed their habit. :stupid:

Likewise, I am not sympathetic with attempts to legalize marijuana for medical use. THC is already available in pill form with a doctor's prescription. Thus, there is no legitimate medical need for raw marijuana:cursing:. I see these initiatives as ill-advised attempts to legitimize this harmful drug.

It is a privilege to represent you and I hope that you will not hesitate to contact me regarding any matter where I might be of assistance. If you would like more information on issues, or would like to share further thoughts with me via e-mail, you may visit my website.

    Sincerely,

    W. Todd Akin

I know exactly what you are going through :cursing:. I live in Iowa where we are 10 years behind what's going on in the world. Six months ago I sent my bi-annual letter (which I've been doing for 3 years) to my state rep Senior Sen Tom Harkin (D-IA) as to "Why is my only medicine, Medical Marijuana, not legal in Iowa? I suffer from Diabetic Neuropathic Gastroparesis, in short the symptoms are surfing waves of nausea from mild to severe every hour of every day, if this nausea is not controlled it results in 12 to 24 hour long vomiting sessions which requires 24-72 hours to recuperate from. Right now there is NO legal drug that gives relief from and controls chronic nausea and vomiting, Marinol does not cut it. I have been on Marinol for years, as I told Sen Harkin, yet it doesn't hold a candle to the immediate relief and 4 to 6 hours of control of chronic nausea via the inhalation of Cannabis Vapors. The most commonly prescribed drug for this condition is Regelan/Metroclopramide which, if used daily causes irreversible Parkinson like shakes and tremors, and this is legal?!?! Sen Tom Harkins response to Medical Marijuana has always been that of the federal government, I recieved a copy of the DEA's "War On Drugs" form letter from Sen Harkin just 1 year ago which stated, "If you smoke marihuana, you will find yourself huddled in a corner willing to sell your children for just one more puff of marijuana." i.e. Marihuana is as addictive and destructive as heroin :wtf:. Then imagine my surprise when I recieved Sen Harkin's Sept 15, 2008 response as to "Why isn't Medical Marijuana legal in Iowa?" This is Sen Tom Harkin's most recent stance on Medical Marijuana in his own words.
"I generally support the vigorous enforcement of anti-drug laws. But it is my understanding that there is evidence to suggest that Marijuana may be effective at delivering medicinal benefits in some circumstances-benefits which may outweigh risks associated with prescribed use in some cases . Certainly we should explore reasonable ways to relieve pain suffered by people with chronic and terminal illnesses, and I support the idea of conducting research into whether Medicinal Marijuana can serve this or other medical purposes. The FDA has already approved a drug called Marinol, a synthetic form of the active ingrediant in Marijuana." Since we are coming up on a presidential election I chalk this up to Harkin trying to garner votes for the democrats . As soon as the election is over Harkin will probably go back to his anti-marijuana anything. We need to keep up the good fight to legalize Medical Marijuana, for it will happen, maybe not in my lifetime since I'm already 55, but it will happen. Peace...:smokin:

Just write him back and say he obviously doesn't represent you as he is completely uneducated about the issues you find important. Tell him you are going to start a campaign to make sure that all of his constituents know his position and start a petition to demand his removal from office or ensure he does not get re-elected. That should get his attention. You're basically saying hey buddy in case you didn't know you work for us and we can get you fired and make sure you never work in this town again. Unfortunately it will take much more work than just writing an angry letter, stay strong and educate those who blindly follow authority to think for themselves. I wish you the best of luck in your efforts. My thoughts and energy are with you.

    Blessed be~

Rep. Wally Herger (R) of northern California is a further disgrace ... while I was happy to receive a 2-page explanation of his views, (instead of the typical 'form letter'), he was very intent on convincing me to "buy the pharmaceutical THC drugs, like Marinol" ... gee, thanks, asshole :wtf: ... I'll just dump my almost FREE homegrown, and spend $2000+/month on your synthetic chemical meds ... Hey ! Wally !, how much $$$ are ya getting from the pharmaceutical companies ?? ...

Of being represented by herger. And all I got was the lousy form letter. I wonder if herger realizes how many VOTERS he is pissing off?

(Tiny grammar lesson- Capitalization of a name is a token of respect. As is using an honorific such as "Mr".)

This is why I don't bother sending letters. You will get this EXACT same response from 99% of all our reps. They don't know a single fact about marijuana and refuse to learn anything. They blatanty do not want anything to do with it. Simply a waste of my time and effort.
