Yesterday, Senator John McCain released a television commercial attacking Barack Obama for allegedly receiving advice on the economy from former Fannie Mae CEO Franklin Raines. From the stump, he has recently tried tying Senator Obama to Fannie Mae, as if there is some guilt in the association with Fannie Mae's former executives.

It is an interesting card for Senator McCain to play, given that his campaign manager, Rick Davis, was paid by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac several hundred thousand dollars early in this decade to head up an organization to lobby in their behalf called The Homeownership Alliance. ...

I worked in government relations for Fannie Mae for more than 20 years, leading the group for most of those years. When I see photographs of Sen. McCain's staff, it looks to me like the team of lobbyists who used to report to me. Senator McCain's attack on Senator Obama is a cheap shot, and hypocritical.

Too funny. One financial genius sticking it to another. Sooo unexpected, considdering Maloni (the letters's author) has contributed quite handsomely to the entire democratic party over the years. What would you expect?

However, the above post compares apples with oranges. Coming at an issue from two different directions, for two entirely different motives. One was for improving financial conditions for home buyers, one was for fucking the american homeowner.

McCain was in the belief that less regulation is good for competition and thusly capitalism. Lobbyists are folks that go around the capitol, and pound various government officials into agreeing as to why the lobbyists ideas are valid, and that whatever legislation the lobbyist are paid to advance, are successful. McCain would have been right, if not for shady deals and back-room agreements between the financial CEO's.

But, the lending institutions CEO's hire lobbyists to push legislation making it possible to cook their books, under-report gains (that go into the CEO's pockets) and manipulate among other things...the housing prices and the stock market. (which are both credit-based industries)

Are you really saying that since McCain is using a lobbyist, that this trumps obamas 'change' politics?
obama's the good guy for cozying-up to the failed finance industry's three blind mice? Going to have to do better than that, or would you just prefer to do as Franklin Delano Raines did before congress...and plead the fifth...? (still his right, but it was our money he was pleading the fifth on)
