Cannabis, my glass of red wine

I just came about my answer to a question my stepmom asked me when we were debating cannabis and it's leading to other drugs about two years ago. She pointed out that her brothers all smoked pot since they were teenagers, and then they went onto harder stuff because they weren't getting the same high they got when they started smoking. I didn't have an answer then, stumped by how I can get around the fact that after smoking cannabis for a while, there are diminishing returns.

I won't get the same high I did when I was 16 now that I have been using cannabis for 3 years, I know that, and I don't mind that. Average people just smoke cannabis to get high, but after learning about it's everyday uses, raising it, caring for it, and sharing it with new people, I don't see it as a drug associated with the harder ones.

I see cannabis as my "glass of red wine" I have every day to keep me healthy. This glass of red wine doesn't make me dysfunctional, it helps me not feel drained from my sleep disorders. This glass of red wine helps me sleep 3-4 solid hours so I can function. It keeps me calm in a lighter, happier mood so I can focus in school. That is how it helps me everyday, everyone has uses for cannabis.

I'm going to try to explain this to my stepmom to try to get her to understand how I use cannabis and how the world could use cannabis for the good.

I completely agree with the anology. Weed calms me down, like when i'm not smoking i get irritated at peoples stupidity so easyily. Also weed seems to be keeping me healthy as i have never gotten sick when i smoked on a regular basis. Perfect example would be around the months through september 07 to march 08 i stoped smoking for a girl and well i ended up with mono and strep throut at the same time then got an allergic reaction to the meds they gave me and broke out in a nasty ass rash. Since I restarted tokin again after we broke up, I haven't even gotten a cold. So if thats not prrof that a bowll a day keeps the bullshit away then i'm not sure what is.

not suggesting that she is one of them, but I have figured some ppl can never change their beliefs.

no matter how much reason or logic or scientific/technical facts u use to back yourself up.

however i agree with your red wine analogy, pretty much the same feelings here, except that i am yet to get sleep problems to fix with mj, but i certainly used to get long hours of sleep and early sleep with mj. without it im hardly able to fall asleep b4 midnight, regardless of what i do to be able to do so.

even wine wont do it for me, only thing that can put me to bed b4 midnight is weed. and i think its fine to say a healthy dose of sleep for an average adult is about 8 hours or so, i never get this except for weekends. mostly no more than 6 hrs, u think im on the path to full blown insomnia in future?

you can point out to her that 1/3 of all americans have tried pot, yet less than 1% has done cocaine...hardly much of a gateway drug

people think its a gateway drug because most coke or heroin heads did try herb first they also probably smoked cigs and drank too, it wasn't the herb that forced them to move up.

i think it has a lot to do with people not having the balls to refuse something they don't want, or they are ignorant to the consequences of 'harder' drugs, or they just don't care.

people don't want to take responsibility for their own actions, your step mothers brothers moved to other drugs because they choose to. i hardly doubt someone got them addicted while they were sleeping. Shit its your life, you only get one, live it your way, but don't go bitching on your death bed about all the things you were 'forced' to become.

I do like your analogy with the red wine. i agree completely.
