Well, I don't have any hard medical facts for you, but from much experience i can tell you that it does help.
My wife has pretty strong cramps and aches and all that comes with the monthly flow. While she does pop a couple midol, she certainly feels better / more calm / muscles relaxed after smoking a bit. Most noticeably it puts her in a much better mood.
From your post it sounds like you may be new to cannabis. We're seasoned smokers and know what to expect and how it will affect us. You may have to give it a couple of tries to feel the heal. Hopefully more people will chime in with some more info for you to base your decision on.
good luck

Welcome! And from person experience, I can say it helps a lot. I hope she is avoiding salt, sugar and caffeine for that week before- that alone can make a difference! What you need to ask your dealer for is an indica strain, preferably one with a rep for "couch-lock". Indicas tend to have hard, compact buds and are better at killing pain. Avoid sativa strains- they are a better "party grass".
Cannabis is quite useful for monthly pain- it relaxes spasming muscles, eases pain and puts your head in a better place. Smoking give fast relief. "Edibles" give long lasting relief, but dosage can be tricky since it may take 3 hours for it to cut in.
Since you are new, you don't likely know what a miracle this plant is! I collect MMJ studies- a lot of studies (just realized not one is on dysmenorrhea, although women have been using cannabis for it forever- how odd and sexist! :wtf: ). Anyway, just click the link in my sig and start reading! You are about to get a real education!
And thank you for asking! Many dudes wouldn't touch this subject with a 10 foot pole! I think your gal's got a winner for a bf!
And invite her on over! We always can use another gal around here!
Granny :hippy:
