Soil - any kind will do, but try to find some that doesn't already have plant food enriched into it as it could burn your plant if too strong. I use Miracle-Gro Organic Choice potting mix... It doesn't have the little plant food balls premixed in.
Get some perlite & mix it into the soil to promote better drainage.

Start your baby in a smaller pot, and let it get a little bit rootbound in it, then transplant into a larger pot to finish out in (a 3 gallon pot will be sufficient).

Lighting - Yes, a Metal Halide or a High Pressure Sodium would be best, even for one plant, but you can still do great things with CFLs (try to find a "daylight spectrum" bulb for vegging, and soft white will do for flowering).

Watering - Always allow the soil to dry out pretty well between waterings... This is a good thing for several reasons: 1, you reduce the risk of overwatering; 2, your plant's roots will be encouraged to grow out wider & deeper in search of the water, promoting a good root system. I water every 3rd day.

Nutrients - here's where you shouldn't skimp... Don't use anything cheap you can get from any home & garden center; order some high-quality plant food from one of many online garden/hydroponics supply stores.... I use Botanicare Pure Blend Pro, but there are hundreds to choose from... Fox Farm, General Hydroponics, Advanced Nutrients... the list goes on & on. Here's a good site to look at for all your plant food needs:

Remember, it's a weed... It will grow pretty well if you just give it what it needs and don't "over-love" it... THAT is the toughest part about growing. Resisting the urge to be by its side all the time. A good thing to remember is this:
Leave it alone, it will grow.

Best of luck!
