    DMV databases linked?

I have the correct and legitimate requirements to obtain an ID in any state. I want to know if DMV databases are linked together to compare information, more specifically, the persons image who's applying for the ID. Anyone know?

In this age of digital photography and digitally-produced identification/driver license cards, I would say that yes, if someone wanted to compare the photos between different states, they could.

But do they do it every time a new ID is requested? I can't imagine a room full of DMV techs comparing images of every person applying for an identification card. My question, for informational purposes of course, is if someone has a Washington DL but applies for a Wisconsin ID would the two images be compared before the ID is sent out? Theres gotta be someone registered to this forum that has knowledge of the inter workings of a states DMV....

    DMV databases linked?

Everytime I get a new one they look at the old one to be sure it's me. But other states may vary. It can't be too hard to get a fake one, 10 million mexicans have figured it out.

When trying to renew a Driver's License, they ask for your old one, when trying to get a new one in a new state, they ask for your license from the last state you lived in. If you do not have it, all states will require two types of identification, either a bill in your name (cell phone, etc) that goes to your new address, or a school ID, is even acceptable. If you work for the state, you can use your state-issued ID card, because they are the state, it is acceptable, you could also use your work ID. However, if what you are trying to do is get a DL from someone else's name, I would recommend against it, there are severe penalties for that, if caught. It's kinda like carrying marijuana around, but you never know when the cop is gonna double-check.

DMV is state by state, so there shouldn't be a federal system.

Absolutely correct. While most states require 2 forms of i.d, there are a few that don't that will just hand an i.d. out to anyone that can fog a mirror. I believe Kentucky is one of these states.
As far as I know, no the DMV databases are not linked, unless there is some new program or mandate that has been started since 9/11.
I do know that you need to be a resident to get an i.d. in any state, so that fact alone makes your original post completely false, unless you have some kind of unique never heard of before "dual state residency". Which you don't.:wtf:

No you don't. It's a requirement you be a resident in the state to get an i.d.
What you are talking about is a federal offense btw.

YES, state DMVs are linked, have been for some years ... and, I 'think' they all require a photo now ... they have been ordered to share all information, ever since the Fed required the states to issue CDL (Commercial Driver License) ... the states weren't real efficient for awhile, as they didn't like being told to spend money on it, but those days are pretty much gone ... screw up in Alabama, Vermont will know ... :smokin:
