Well something is not right. You should be able to put the back side of your hand on the cool tube without it being uncomfortable.

I would choose temps over keeping the light close to the canopy. I'm sure others would agree with me but you may want to post this question in the plant problems forum just to be sure.
I would pull it back, or add stronger ventilation rather than leave it where it currently sits.
