Watering Question
I read stickyaddicts guide very thoroughly but failed to see anything that mentions how OFTEN i should water. I see people saying the use gallons, but once I first plant the seed after I get my first stem after germination, how much/often should I water it?

Watering Question
For a seedling, just keep the soil moist...not wet.
For larger pots tho...Too many variables in each individual grow, (pot size, local weather, soil type...) to give an accurate quantity, so you'll have to figure that one out.
-but-
When watering, I measure how much ph'd water it takes to see a little trickle of run-off coming out of the bottom. Let's pretend it will take a half gallon to do so. From that point forward, I first add half of that amount, (a quart, in this example) then after a couple of minutes, I'll add the other half. This allows good absorption to the lower root zones. Do not 'flood' the pot with each watering, as this can cause problems.
Let the pot dry-out somewhat before your next watering. Wait till the pot feels almost empty when you pick it up, or you can use the 'brownie' method. Stick your finger into the soil to the second knuckle. If your fingernails come out muddy or moist...it's not yet time to water. If the dirt under your fingernail is dry, should be ok to water. (just like checking to see if your brownies are done baking...stick a toothpick in the middle, if batter coats the toothpick, they aren't done yet)

Watering Question
I'm a firm believer in moisture meters, for SOIL. Mine has a 8 inch probe. With several plants...I noticed some plants want/need water after 12 hours, other plants nextdoor, don't need water for 24-36 hours. Go figure?
Easy to use, cheap. Goes to the BOTTOM of a 10 inch pot. Three possible readings: Wet-Moist-Dry. I don't water until it reads DRY.... KISS principal growing....:smokin:
I don't like to get my fingernails dirty....ostexcuseme:

It does keep you from biting your fingernails, tho. (at least it should, lol)

Watering Question
Rusty - "If your fingernails come out muddy or moist...it's not yet time to water" GREAT IDEA, thank you for that, and thank you. I have a good idea now of how often and how much to water.
Dutch - I think I am going to try that with my second plant. I just got my first seed to root and put it in a dixie cup and soil.
Thanks guys for your input. I will be logging my grow once I got about 4 plants beginning to flower.
Thanks![align=center]My First Grow Ever - Check the Log:
