i need help with my plant and flowering.. what can i do to make the buds more potent and bigger

its a purple chronic.. a friend gave me a seed and said his plant grew 8 feet tall.. but i dont think mine will do that.. and the soil its in.. is not gardening soil just TOUGH solid light brown dirt
