    Help w/ sexing a Northern

Hey everybody! I'm new to the forum and was looking for some help. Can anyone give me their opinions as to the sex of this northern plant I have going? It hasnt shown any definate "pods" yet (judging from where on the plant they were on my last grow). I'm thinking that this may be a hermie of some sort because the flowers just seem skinny to me. Should I hack this bad boy down (it always pains me)? Please people let me know if you have the got the good skills! Thanks, I love the info here!

    PIC #1 & PIC #2- The hermie/male suspect

PIC #3- some cranberry that is coming along nicely
PIC #4- my sweet sweet girls

I think the bud in pics one and two are hermies but that could just be me, I'm seeing pod like shapes in the magnified pictures so I'm leaning towards hermie.

I wouldn't chip it though, maybe move it somewhere away from your other girls and let it finish up, then you've got female seeds and nice bud to smoke.

I can't tell anything, probably because I havent had a hermie and can't recall looking at many hermie pics.

I would keep it and just move it to a different area so that pollen wont get on your other plant(s). Also don't use the offspring from hermies(fem seeds) for breeding.

Worse comes to worse, you can make hash, honey oil or cannabutter. :greenthumb:

If it is a hermie and you're growing indoors, check for light leaks.

    Help w/ sexing a Northern

Thank you Sunny & Southernguerilla for the advice. After a more thourough inspection this morning, I found (1) small pod with a seed in it. This is about the 8th week of flowering. I have (3) different species, but this is (or was) my only northern.
Sunny- my problem is that I have no other light source. Would regular sunlight through a window finish it up (probably only have another 3 weeks)? If not, Can I trim it somehow to keep it from releasing pollen? I think (just to stay safe.. I have plenty of seed stock) I may murder her so I dont risk pollination. Again, thanks people! Let it grow!

If there aren't many male pods I would just pick them off or rmove branches that are worse than others. My main strain right now is a hermie white rhino they seem to be only polinating themselves and still produce smokable bud once you sift the seeds out. The other strains in my room haven't thrown out more than 1 or 2 seeds per plant from cross polination.

Thanks Chronic Chrissy. I wonder if it varies by species though? I have northern, cranberry, and afghani all going at once. The hermie is the one and only northern that I have. Everything else (12 additional plnts.) is the cranberry or the afghani. Also, everything but the afghani (afghani was from seed) is second generation. My last grow, my northern was a hermie and I got quite a few seeds from 4 or 5 plants, but there was another male mixed in that I caught kind of late. I dunno. I'm gonna seperate it from everything just because I got too many seeds last time and I dont wanna mess anything up (although the bud was smokeable- but still not dank). I just hope the light from the skylight can do the trick for the last couple weeks?

Let me guess- either your temperatures are in the 90s or you have a light leak. That is the cause of the airy buds that lack substance, and will also cause hermis. Some strains are more tolerant of abuse in the home garden, and the TYPE of abuse they tolerate varies. Something bred to be hardy in northern climates and tolerate cold may not be quite so tolerant of a hot grow area!
Also what is your exhaust and ventilation setup? You've got suffocation symptoms.
