I'm glad to hear the list is bogus.

But I am still disturbed by the idea that a mayor would fire a librarian for not "being supportive" of her. I think the post of librarian ought to be considered non-political, difinitely non-partisan.

It's only a rumor that the librarian was fired for not being open to the idea of banning certain books from the library, but I believe it. There is a record of Palin asking the librarian about the procedure for banning books from the library and the librarian resisting even talking about banning any books from its collection. My feeling is that's what Palin felt was not "being supportive" --- refusing to consider banning books. What else could it be? Any alternative theories for why Palin might have fired the librarian for not "being supportive" of Palin? What is the librarian supposed to do to "be supportive"? Work on Palin's re-electin campaign? How supportive or non-supportive can a librarian even be esxpected to be? The idea is ridiculous.

I think the reason conservatives are so disdainful of culture is that they produce so little of it themselves. Conservatives have no cultural offereings to "compete" (if that is even the right word) with any of the cultural offerings of the rest of the spectrum from modrate to liberal. That's why they seek to ban books, plays, movies, songs, etc. They have nothing to offer to the culture in their so-called "culture war," so they seek to fight that war politically by banning the opposition's contribution to culture. It'll never work. You can't fight culture with politics. Social conservatives should try offering someting to the culture from their own point of view rather that try to fight this "culture war" politically.

You're absolutely right about this! Maybe the story should not be banned outright, but it needs to be moved to the adult section and off limits to kids! This story is all about sex! The so called "little red riding hood" is a obvious metaphor for the clitoral hood! The "big bad wolf" is just a horny guy who wants to ride that little red hood --- ride it al the way to China! He stalks her alll the way through the woods and is waiting to rape her at grandama's house! And the twisted part is that she is kind of into it --- my, what a big d**k you have!
