Question about venting down drain

So i was looking around and had read about how people vent their exhaust down the sewer and that sounded like a really interesting idea. does anyone have any experience?? from what i read is you find the main line into the sewer found in peoples basements. However where I'm living we have no basements (tornado alley no less) so i was thinking about running through the drain pipes connected to my washing machine...what do you guys think? i'm going to do some snooping around my laundry room, b/c im not sure if it has a U-flow trap thing to keep the sewer smell out...that might pose a problem

If anyone has done anything similar to has advise/critiques I'm more than happy to hear...

ok so after some looking around my laundry room i noticed this setup. next to/behind my washer is a pvc pipe running straight up from the floor. it runs about 3 feet above the floor. there is no seal and a black hose is running from the washer into the pvc pipe. there is no seal or back-trap so i don't think it runs into the sewer...would anyone know where this pipe goes??? it looks promising that i could rig up a Y splitter and run one fork to the washer and another to an exhaust vent going to my grow. does anyone see any problems with this???

The chance of sending your fragrant pot odor out of your home and to wherever is not one I'd like to take.
A standard exhaust setup includes a simple carbon filter and a high-CFM blower to force air through it. You can then blow it out of your home through a vent with a dryer vent cover on it, that looks like a dryer vent- or blow it into the line that your clothes dryer already uses and take advantage of the existing dryer vent.

Carbon filtration is important no matter what route you take, unless you live in a windy and secluded area, and even then there is an argument to be made FOR filtration.

From what I am reading you are talking about your washers standpipe.
The problem I see is, there is no seal at the top where the washer hose is dropped into it. This is a Vacuum break so when your washer drains it does not syphon all the water out of the washer.

A Y connection is possable but I dont believe it will help vent air out of the grow without venting it into the laundry room. There is a P trap at the bottom of that pipe that is full of water. The smell will go back into the laundry room before it blows through the water in the P trap.

A solution would be to seal the pipe where the washer hose drops in, and add a syphon break to the washer hose. You will need a good blower to blow through the standing water in the trap.

This is only a 2" pipe, you would be better off hooking into the main line, probably a 4". If you do this you will need to be sure you will get no backflow through your room vent.

I hope this gives you some insight into your problem.

they're talking about venting UP thru the sewers ventpipe, on your roof, not DOWN the sewer drain ... do not do anything to allow sewer gas to enter the house ... besides smelling terrible, it is methane gas, both flammable and poisonous ... :smokin:
