Rebgirl, did you see the speech? I would imagine you liked the part where McCain admitted all the Republican failures of the past 8 years, because it is exactly the stuff you talk about all the time.

The Republicans said for DECADES, we are the party of small government, fiscal respoinsibility, and military competence. But as soon as they got control of all branches of gevernment, they increased the size of government bigger than it has ever been, they blew out the deficit hgher than it has ever been, and they bungled a war. You say Republicans have abandoned their principles, and so did McCain. You are both right.

Now McCain thinks that after admitting it, he can just say, it was THOSE OTHER Republicans, not me. You can trust me because I'm a maverick, not like THEM. I'm going back to our principles. Riiiiiiight.

It won't work. people know it was Republicans in full control of the entire Government that screwed up. They do not believe in their own principles.

I think it was big of McCain to admit how bad they screwed up though. That was definitely my favorite part of an otherwise crappy speech.
Actually Texas Grass said the thing about the drilling.

Yeah I agree that "Rhino" Republicans or Fake Republicans are the ones that have screwed our parties name. McCain is really more of a moderate Republican (at least he was before he decided to bow to the religious base and such). He's like the other Republicans in some ways but if you look at his record he has thumbed his nose at the Republicans more times than I can count.

You can't honestly blame the Republicans for all of this mess. I know your more intelligent than that. It's a two party system. The Dems are just as to blame as the Republicans.

I liked the speech because at least he admitted things are terribly awry.

But everyone on this site should know that I really liked Ron Paul to begin with and if I had my way the Republican party would start over again and return to it's Libertarian roots.
