Yes, that is actually a type of NFT. Your goal will be to provide lots of oxygen. I would use something with a slightly larger particle size, like hydroton, unless you are using the ultra-coars perlite that is super awesome and unfortunately super expensive along with.
Remember that your pH and EC numbers will need to be monitored with this.
Search 'containerized NFT' for threads on this style of hydro. The fine particle perlite is too small, and if that is what you run, do an automatic drip-to-waste instead.
