Obama To Appear On O'Reilly Factor
Ha ha! I don't have any shame in my beliefs either, and really it would not have been a problem. But I had that momentary FLASH of seeing the look on my brother-in-law's face if he came into the room and saw a three-foot-tall image of Bill O'Reilly's face frozen there on the TV. *I* don't like O'Reilly that much and would have felt the need to explain why I was watching a show I don't even like that much, sort of the same embarrassment I would have if someone saw me watching "Dancing with the Stars." It would have been fine, but I would have probably had to put up with being ribbed about it at family barbeques for the rest of my life. If you knew the family dynamic, you'd see the humor in the situation.

Actually, even these family members who are much more partisan in their politics are not "liberals" in the normal sense of the word. The brother-in-law is a small business owner, loves off-roading through the winderness, loves owning and shooting very powerful guns, ambivalent about things like gay marriage. He's a very partisan Democrat that comes from his family tradition of supporting Democrats during the civil rights days, working-class roots, economic policies, and kitchen table issues like healthcare. He's more conservative about things like gun ownership and environmental regulation. I come to the Democratic party for totally different reasons, like envoronmental reponsibility. I'm conservative on other things like fiscal responsibility. He's just very partisan in his support, despite disagreeing with the Democrats on some issues, and he likes liberal commentators like Oberman.

Nope, same day. I recall that because after the interview it was said that O'Reilly was jetting to the convention for McCains speech.
