Palin: God tasked us with Iraq war

Palin: God tasked us with Iraq war
    Wed, 03 Sep 2008 14:08:50 GMT
    Sarah Palin
Sarah Palin, the surprise vice presidential pick by Republican candidate John McCain, has said the war in Iraq was 'a task from God'.

Like US President George W. Bush, Governor Palin attempted to justify her policies by claiming they were divinely-ordered during a speech at the Wasilla Assembly of God church in June.

"Pray for our military. Pray for our military men and women who are striving to do what is right for this country - that our leaders, our national leaders are sending them out on a task that is from God," the Alaska governor said in her address posted on the website of the Wasilla Assembly of God.

Earlier in 2005, President Bush claimed he was on a mission from God when he started the war in Afghanistan and Iraq.

"I am driven with a mission from God. God would tell me, 'George go and fight these terrorists in Afghanistan'. And I did. And then God would tell me 'George, go and end the tyranny in Iraq'. And I did." The US president told a Palestinian delegation in Sharm el-Sheikh.

Palin, prior to her 'there is a plan and that it is God's plan' comment on the Iraq war, asked the audience to pray for a $30 billion national gas pipeline project because it was 'God's will to get that gas line built' as well.

Earlier in March 2007, Palin had said, "I've been so focused on state government, I haven't really focused much on the war in Iraq."

The report comes as one of the first on Palin's positions on foreign policy issues, as the Republican camp has not yet allowed her to hold a press conference.

    wow that is funny.
'God's will to get that gas line built'
I am sure that is 'gods' priority. Forget about the starving, killing...the people need gas pipelines!

Thanks tgrass for sharing that. It gave me a big smile this morning, and then an overwhelming pit in my stomach...what if?

My imaginary pet dog told me the same thing but I didn't believe him.
The Tooth Fairy had no comment, but Santa said he still receives messages from God telling him to enslave more elves.

If we were to have a real separation of church and state, then nobody affiliated with any religion would be allowed to run for government positions. Then we'd be led by those morally corrupt agnostics and atheists.... hahahaha

In God we trust. God bless America. One nation under God. God shed His grace on thee. So help me God. blah.

Give it another 2000 years and maybe people will wake up.

BEAAAUUUTIFULLY put  I honestly don't know why we even bother pretending that religion plays no role in the way our country is run. God wanted a pipeline? Seriously? God... the supposed ultimate creator of EVERYTHING... wants a pipeline? No wonder all of my prayers as a child went unanswered... God was busy pushing for Big Oil.

Would it be possible for everyone from CannCom to combine resources and purchase an island somewhere? I'm a dead F'ing serious. We'll end up surviving the upcoming nuclear war and be the last remaining tribe of Earth... It will be our responsibility to bring the world back in a safe and eco-friendly way. Think about it.... I can't take this freakshow anymore.

There was never really any chance of me voting for McCain. Palin does not help him sway my vote at all, well maybe sway it farther away!

This video would be hillarious if it weren't so frightening. What a ding dong she seems to be. She thinks the war is a mission from God and that God wants a natural gas pipeline? I think it is pretty preumptuous of anyone to claim to know what God wants. But if I may also be so presumptuous, I think if were able to go through the list of things that God wants, probably a war and a natural gas pipeline would not be very high on the list.

The pastor who was acting as the MC was an odd one too. He said Alaska will be a place of refuge during the End Times and that they have to get ready for everyone to flood into the state. Ha ha! I always wanted to visit Alaska, and now I think I better hurry up and do it before all the Left Behind get there and ruin it.

    Well honestly he didn't lie.

The office of governor is an executive office

The office of senator is one of the legislation branch.

In regards to the god told me to do it.. I haven't watched the video, but I didn't really care for it when George Bush said it and I don't care for it if she said it. However if this is the only bad thing people can pull up on her, that and her pregnant daughter which she handled with her FAMILY then I say go for it.

You should watch it. I despise the kind of thinking that says. "God is on OUR side." Praying to God for success in a war or in a pipeline project is fine. It's the same as praying for anything else, and is fine for people who believe in prayer. But declaring that God is on our side in a War, or saying that God favors some kind of public policy, is ridiculous. It's a dangerous mindset.

That's not what I meant. I meant I'm kind of on your side on this one. I don't think people should say they are doing things in God's name. Even if they truely believe it.

Although I don't like it, for me it's not as big of an issue as it is for other people.

So for the most part I am in agreement :hippy:
