there is always some armageddon waiting around the corner. remember when rock 'n roll was going to cause the downfall of society? fear is one of the few tools that the powerful are any good at using to control the minds of the masses and we can be made to fear almost anything if the media words it right.

Everybody is so bent on taking an extreme stance of "CO2 is causing all global warming!", or "we're not causing any of it! Lets fire up the hummer!"

The science in how CO2 captures and increases heat in the Earth's atmosphere is solid; it just can't nearly account for the whole process. Yes the solar system is heating up; that doesn't necessitate SUV's on Mars to validate man-made global warming. You guys speak as though man-made GW proponents have never heard this most basic argument. Few even consider the notion that *gasp* it's due to a multitude of factors. Personally I'm guessing that CO2 emissions are responsible for somewhere around 15% of it all, but as I must emphasize, that's a guess.

Personally I'm more worried about the other greenhouse gas. It's more heat-trapping and more abundant than even CO2. Can anybody guess what it is? Water vapor!

Oh word of warning to everybody: it's impossible to win or conclude a global warming debate in any way. There's a reason I still don't have a 100% solid stance on the subject; it's fucking endless! I've tried to do my research, I've looked at other debates, and we could spend our whole lives doing this:

Joe: This study proves that CO2 heats up the globe!
Moe: But this study proves that there's not enough CO2!
Joe: Well this study shows that your study forgot to carry the 6!
Moe: Well this study shows that your study is biased!
Joe: Well this study shows that your study used flawed methodology!
Moe: But this study shows that solar flares are emitting pixie dust!
Joe: But this study shows that pixie dust has a ph rating of....

First, I'd like to clear up the meaning of "global warming". Global warming is definitely occurring. The question is, is it mostly "natural global warming" or "anthropogenic global warming"? Now, global temperatures have varied a lot over human history. There were glaciers around the Great Lakes as recent ago as 5000 BC. The "Little Ice Age" caused all sorts of crop failures in Europe during the middle ages. Since the 19th century, the world has been getting warmer, but any number of things could be causing it.

Still, global warming is useful as a tool to get people to stop using such large amounts of fossil fuels, even if the risk is overstated. Eventually, we're going to run out, and unless we have a backup plan, we're going to be in a world of hurt when that happens. So, I work with the global warming people anyway, even if our reasons for doing what we do are different.

Bingo! The earth has gone thru MANY cycles of heating and cooling in its 4bn year history. Hell, we're STILL coming out of the last ice age - the earth has been "warming" for the last 10,000 years. Are man made GH gasses expediting the process? Its a possibility and probable to SOME degree - but the extent is not exactly known. There are SO MANY factors, both terrestrial and extra-terrestrial. There are even factors outside of our solar system that can and do influence our climate!

Lastly, I'm all for bikini's in January

Yes its just the natural cycle of the Earth. Just the Governments want to make money out of this somehow.

What I wish is Aliens would come down and get all the Worlds Governments out; they are brining the World down.
