Sarah Palin is McCain's VP pick
Yup, the pipeline is a hinderance to wildlife. There are fences and other obstacles that seperate the young from their parents. Hung in fence's, etc. Just off the top of my head. Nat'l Geog. did an article on it many years ago!
The entire pipeline is not above ground, high enough for a bear to walk on. Most likely they are walking on the heated parts that had to be re-done, when the oil wouldn't move through the icelands! That whole pipeline needs replaced!

LOL:thumbsup:
On this note, I really hope Obama heads down to New Orleans real quick and holds up his hands and pushes hurrican Gustav back out into the ocean and saves New Orleans!

I am from Kansas, spent 27 years there.

I don't doubt for a second that these things happen everywhere, including in AK.
I do doubt that there has been any sort of ecological disaster there due to the pipeline.:wtf:

Not to forget, we hunt them for food, 'because there are too many' causing auto accidents, anyway deer! 2 Yrs ago, they, deer, were the # 1 reason in U.S.A. for auto accidents!
Lets not forget Exxon Valdiz, just got off the hook, with little more than a slap on the hand (oops, fingertip) this past year! How did that slip by her? That was such a disgrace. Look at the dead wildlife from that oil! I can't show a pix, surely you will 81K!
That pipeline could pop open. Read up on it. It was built for a temporary fix and it has outlasted its' initial proposed lifetime by more than a decade or so! She has to get out of AK before it is fucked up with all that oil!
She needed to get a new pipeline going, ASAP! I question anyone that would be Gov. of that state and not address getting a new pipeline!
The MT farmers are really pissed with what they are doing in MT for oil! I just don't know how that has not been used as a major example. Except, it is not a well populated State!
I would not vote for a female because she is female. Ferraro shattered the glass ceiling prior to her announcement today! Guess, it shows her inexperience as a politician! May be a real good thing!
I do believe this election is between VP's! I believe this will be a presidency that may well be finished by a VP! I thot I'd make up my mind when the announcement's came!
Now, more debates! :stoned: PR

Kool Aid?? I am confused as to what derogatory insult you are wielding now. I doubt that anyone ever handed you that cup of electric kool aid. You might have then realized that in fact you may not be correct about everything.
I am going to do something now which more than a few people on this thread struggle with. Answer the ideas brought up opposing my position. Instead of your good ole boy "yeah you are so right...thanks pal...way to get those limp kool aid...blah blah.
So how can i support two different candidates for president? Easy. What i want to see is things shaken up more than ever before. I want my country to do a complete 180 on many long standing policies and laws. I want the US to embrace more pacifistic ideals. Ron Paul offered this. I believe in his politics. Unfortunately he cannot win this election. SO.... i am supporting the candidate i think will change the policies in our government. Barack does not have 30 years of experience like McCaine does. That is comforting to me. I am a realist and i know one president can only do so much. I am just hoping the ball gets turned and pointed in another direction.
THERE IS ONE FUNDAMENTAL DIFFERENCE BETWEEN YOU AND I. Deep down in my heart I don't give a shit who becomes president. I am not blinded by a party. If John McCaine became president I would watch closely as always and encourage and support a move in the directions i want to see this country move. If he were to act on some of his original beliefs i would be pleased. The problem with what i have seen is that he has adopted others policies since recieving the nomination. Time to pay the piper. The dirrence being you will bash Obama no matter what he would accomplish. Stubborn good ole boy...
As far as pipelines
Have you ever been to Yosemite? How about Moab? Many people including myself consider these places ruined. Roads turn wilderness into non wilderness. Is this not environmental degradation?
If you can stand to read someone that does not encourage you to believe what you already believe, check out Edward Abbey. Desert Solitaire is a good place to start. I dare you... but also caution you, its not all quantifiable. Which means it may not compute. Kool Aid helps with this.
Alaska pipeline spill amount debated - Environment - MSNBC.com
"Onshore development, like the offshore variety, results in heavy-duty industrialization of affected areas. Exploration activities degrade wildlife habitats and roadless areas, harm fragile soils and archeological resources, and encourage damaging offroad vehicle use. And extraction activities have displaced wildlife and fragmented and degraded their habitats. Wilderness values on millions of acres have been lost and local communities transformed through "boom and bust" economies."
