Elderly woman goes down baggage chute at airport

STOCKHOLM (AFP) - An elderly woman misunderstood instructions while checking in at Sweden's main airport and was whisked down a baggage shoot after she placed herself instead of her luggage on the belt, media reported Wednesday.

The 78-year-old woman, who was not named, was preparing to fly from Stockholm's Arlanda airport to Germany on Tuesday when she lay down on an unmanned baggage belt in the belief she was following check-in instructions, the Upsala Nya Tidning local daily reported on its website.

She was quickly swept off to the baggage handling centre, where staff members helped get her back on her feet.

The woman suffered no serious injury and caught her flight as planned.

Maybe it was on purpose! Maybe after so many years of travelling, she finally did something she always wondered about and wanted to do and is using her age as an excuse for doing it.

Me however, I always kinda wanted to ride the baggage carrier a few times

    or

Lay on the baggage X-Ray machine so people can see my insides....

If that had happened in the US she would have been shot as a terrorist.

I seriously doubt that. She may have been detained, questioned and released but shooting at a 78 year old lady? Somehow I don't think that would happen. I am of middle eastern descent living in the good old U S of A and I say that as a frequent flyer. :hippy:

:S2: maybe! maybe not! I mean we have a government high profile agent who has one of the highest levels of security clearances available, listed by the same government as a flight risk and on the blacklist of TSA & FBI!!

dude, true, but its totally up to how paranoid or how nazi the officers at a certain airport are!!

Kathryn Johnston shooting - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

false assumptions, heck false information or intelligence can be deadly these days

I wouldnt say she would get shot, but maybe tasered!

I think with a 78 year old woman they would take more precautions.. however I would agree they may taser someone.

Also keep in mind the news doesn't report how many times people go through airport security without any hassle and make it to their destination flawlessly. It's the job of the news to report on incidents that shock people. To bring Drama to the news... to make it scary or exciting. Who would watch the news where they report on all the good things that happen? They wouldn't have any viewers and they wouldn't be able to sell advertisement space on their airwaves.

So How many countless americans make it through airport security everyday without being tasered or hassled?

Again I'm of middle eastern descent.. my last name is middle eastern and to be honest I'm kind of a dick to the TSA people. I've never had a problem, but maybe I should start being nicer to the security there.

Although I have to admit I've been itching to say "Don't taze me bro!" rofl!!

if u mean "Americans" your answer "should be" 0

but since things are wicked these days and government does not trust any entity (weed they smoke must be too potent, US government is "too" paranoid)
that number will be slightly higher, I could not find any accurate stats on how many "americans" go thru this hassle on regular

but im sure its not pleasant if u r flagged for some reason... every flight u take, u will just be treated "as a suspect"-not a convict, but a suspect-that has to be thoroughly checked, and your only fault can be your name. u will have to be checked in a different area by TSA, and perhaps they conduct a full background check on the spot which makes the process long, cuz despite all the technologies we have, a full scale background check needs 2 go thru different sources

no1 can be immune to such things
BBC NEWS | Americas | Cat Stevens refused entry to US
although later the apparently fixed this one case!

u r lucky as a mideastern-american that they dont give u shit like that... but if u ask those who have this problem, its really unbearable, especially if they are frequent flyers!

Probably because it does not happen often enough to make it worth doing a in depth analysis/report over. If you do find one I'd be interested in reading it.

Again.. how often does that happen? Not as often as you probably think or that the media insinuates. My last name is not Hussein but it is definitely a recognizable Iranian Last name. I am never hassled. I take off my shoes.. show them my laptop.. and I'm on my way.

Uhh Cat Stevens? You mean Yusuf Islam? He's probably on America's watchdog list since he's converted to Islam and donated money to Hamas.. whether he knew or not.

So that article doesn't surprise me.
