I remember when we visited Hawaii when I was 18 the one flower smell I absolutely LOVED (and still do) is plumeria. I absolutely ADORE the scent of those flowers and they are what I remember most about Hawaii. Pretty long ago but lovely nonetheless.

When you step off the plane onto the tarmac at the Kona airport
the Plumeria scent wraps around you. sweet and warm, and somehow silky dark.
Just above the airport are three large plumeria farms and the trade winds swirl it to you.
When you've been there a while though, you can't smell the forest for the trees.

I was in Kona in '91 for the total eclipse.
A deeply moving experience.
Had forgotten the sea of aroma that is Hawaii.

At totality, the birds went quiet, and a confused chorus of night frogs, n critters happened in fits n starts.
Expected that.

What was overwhelming, was the scent.
After a minute or two, the daytime Plumeria and Orchid, and Palm, etc. was swept out to sea and the abrupt transition to night scents was awe inspiring. It just "makes you cry for happy".

It's usually a gradual transition that few notice. At least I hadn't.
Probably when/why I fell in love with Hawaii.

Said, someday, I'm gonna just up and move there.
Motorcycle wreck showed me that the future is never guaranteed.
So, I just up and moved here.

E Como Mai. means Welcome.
Come visit our island.
I have 12 Plumeria trees on a 1/4 acre.
Come sit on my Lanai and enjoy them.

Take a vacation and never go back.

I do, I do, jd....thanks for the kind thoughts. Weve had some good days and some bad days but friends and family are still just that, the sky is still a beautiful blue, the land and scenery we live in is gorgeous, we have each other and our creatures to count blessings with so we grab absolutely everything we can.

Thanks Weezard....the improvement was good enough that even he was a bit excited about it!!

Weeze, thinking about folks like you and X-C help me in ways that you can't believe.....actually knowing people who have been through worse and persevered is something I think about constantly.......and helps more than you guys know.

But everyones' kind thoughts and hopes for us also mean so much......I can say that I am usually a very private person and there are many people I deal with daily who don't know......but I have no trouble spilling my guts here at cdot!!

And we all need somewhere to spill.

It's the nature of this media to give a sense of intimacy/immunity.
It eliminates "Image prejudice" as a bar to communication and acceptance.
(Though I've seen folks react to avatars)

All we see here are crystallized thoughts and emotions that bleed from another mind's fingertips.

I met an incredible author on the BBs world in the '80s
Read a short story that made me cry.
Had I met the author first, in person, my visual bigotry would have labeled him grungy slob.
And my life would be the poorer for it.

But, first, I saw a soul with heart and depth.
Then, I met the "Grungy Slob."

We've been friends for 25 years now.
Apparently, the web also makes Wee Zards ramble as well.
