Canada student visa-border crossing-check for weed?
I'm moving to BC in a week to begin classes. I've got a little bit of weed with me, small enough amount to hide inside book spines/underneath packing box flaps, that sort of thing. It's to tide me over until I can get some when i get there. I also have some pills stored in much the same way - they are medically justified and only for personal use.
Here's the question. I've been to visit many times, bringing gifts for friends, in both directions across the border at Blaine and never had a problem - no agent bade me put my gifts or suitcase contents through an X-ray machine when I passed through Customs on several trips by Greyhound. I had a pill bottle with some dried out doobs on several occasions in my fanny pack, but never have either US or Canadian customs asked to search it. Ever. And certainly not by X-ray.
Now, I'm being more cautious with this crossing because it's essentially landing as an immigrant. So no pill bottles or baggies. My main concern is this:
Do they routinely pass the personal possessions of immigrants and temporary visa holders through x-rays at the border either in BC or at Buffalo? If not, what is the threshold for suspicion for X-rays: lots of personal effects for a short stay, dog screens, etc.? Anybody have any experience crossing the border to stay, but with emergency rations?
I've seen the X-ray machines, or what looks like X-ray machines, in the Buffalo crossing, but never actually seen them used.keysersoze Reviewed by keysersoze on .
