House Democratic leaders and protesters waving McCain signs had a war of words Tuesday at a press event outside an old train station. The demonstrators interrupted House Speaker Nancy Pelosi with chants of â??Drill here! Drill now!â?�

Pelosi paused and asked the group, â??Right here?â?�

Seeming to enjoy the back and forth, she followed with another question: â??Can we drill your brains?â?�

She went on to refer to the protestors, who continued to chant sporadically, as â??handmaidens of Big Oil.â?� Arguing that increased offshore drilling would only reduce gas prices two cents in 10 years, she referred to the demonstrators as the â??two-cents-in-ten-years-crowd.â?�

Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer swiped at the demonstrators, too, saying that â??sophomoric chantingâ?� wonâ??t solve the energy crisis and that â??all thinking Americans knowâ?� â?? stressing the word "thinking" and looking at the crowd â?? that America doesnâ??t have a quarter of the wordâ??s fossil fuels yet uses a quarter of the worldâ??s energy.

Please... If these protestors are going to be inconsiderate douchebags and continuously interrupt her and disrupt the speech, what right have they to demand respectful consideration in return? We don't need politicians who are mindlessly polite and subservient in the face of blatant disrespect. You fling mud at somebody, expect to get some right back in your face. :thumbsup:

Wow, 70% of the population was at a Pelosi event? I had no idea she could draw those kinds of crowds! And why wasn't I invited?

Honestly though, I think these people are stupid. Oil is a dead resource, and even if we drilled all US oil reserves at maximum capacity, it wouldn't make a dent in the world supply or prices. There is definielty plenty of money to be MADE by oil companies by opening up more oil leases, but not much money to be SAVED by oil consumers.

These are people who want to SAVE money who have been bamaboozled by those who want to MAKE money.

You mean like how Pelosi would interrupt or deny any speak in the senate in regards to offshore drilling?

You're right you fling mud in somebody's face and expect to get some right back in yours. Pelosi had this coming. It's just too bad that she won't even listen to her constituency. There's a reason congress's approval rating is around 18-20%. Pelosi is part of that reason.

Oil is not a dead resource but it is definitely a depleting resource. To assume that adding an additional 200k barrels a day to the world trade market would do nothing is prepostorous. It is true that American Alone would not put a dent in the price of oil if we were the sole suppliers. Luckily for us the rest of the world is pitching in also. Combined with our efforts and other countries efforts, yes... the price of oil will go down.

I work for an oil company now and have worked for a few others in the past. About those oil leases.. if there was enough oil under the leases, or even accessible oil, to where it was cost effective (meaning they would turn a profit) by drilling there then trust me.. they would've been drilling there already.

A lot of money is invested by oil companies to determine if an area is profitable to drill or not. You can't blame them for not drilling if they feel they won't make money off of it. They are a business, not a public service.

These are people who want to SAVE money who have been bamaboozled by those who want to MAKE money.

Last I checked the world market determined the price for a barrel of oil.
