    fixin to start

I will be starting in this (see below) I want to put the seeds straight into the soil. Should I put the light on before they sprout or just leave it dark ? Do I want the pointy end of the seed facing down? I have looked for a thread on this and I cant find it ,,,,I know its in here somewhaere because I have seen it before. The stain will be Kentucky Kush/ Love posaion. A friend of mine crossed the 2 strains.

Wow, cool. And I don't mean the temperature. I've always wanted to try a refrigerator grow. I thought about a mini fridge too, kinda like a computer case.

Good choice on just putting the seeds into dirt. I believe this is the way to get the best overall survival rate. Just make sure to keep them warm and moist. They will germinate best in 92 degree soil (not air temp), so a propagation mat will help but it's not necessary. They will germinate if the soil is at room temp, but it may take a little longer and you might not get quite the success rate. Do not worry about how the seed is oriented. It will come up if you keep it moist. When they drop in the wild they don't get a choice, and they do fine. If it gets wet then dries out just once, she's probably a goner. If you germinate out of soil, the part that comes out of the seed is not the stem, but a root - put it growing down.

Just make a little hole in seedling soil (preferably) 1/4 to 1/2 inch deep, drop the seed in, cover with dirt and water thoroughly (gently as to not dislodge the seed). A little B1 supplement of your choice in the water might help, but it's in no way necessary. You don't need light on them until the seeds pop. By pop I mean open, not break the surface, which could take anywhere from 18 hours to more than 2 weeks. Some say that you don't need light on them at all until they come up, and that's probably true for the most part. To be safe, I make sure they have light on them within a day after I plant them. I'm pretty sure light can be sensed a short distance under the surface. If you were to open your eyes with 1/4 inch of soil on them you would be able to tell if the sun was shining or not. At any rate, they don't need or want much light within the first few days. After that increase maybe in 1 or 2 stages. This can be done by simply keeping the light a couple feet back, then gradually moving it closer over the next few days. Maybe after 2 weeks it could be full strength.

Did I answer your questions? Wow, sorry for rambling. I recently had my first hit of the day, along with some coffee. Please keep us informed and please keep the pictures coming. Good luck.

PS. Though you want to keep the soil moist (not soaked) for germination, be sure to get a gentle fan going or mold may show up. You may not need one if you have them in an area that gets alot of ventilation already, but soon after they start growing they should be gently rustling in a breeze most of the time.
