This is directed to all of those new to using marijuana. Although the substance has a reputation similar to that of alcohol, a mild and fairly safe intoxicant, it can and should be used for more "educational" purposes.
I quit using marijuana for about 4 months, following an almost daily smoking regimen. As I start smoking now I find that my thoughts are lucid and free-flowing, and it is because of this that I have gained great insight into my personality, my relationship with friends, family and the world, philosophy (both eastern and western thought), as well as a deeper understanding of literature.
My point with all of this is that marijuana is fun to use with friends or for after school or before you watch Dog Day Afternoon for the fourteenth time, but make an effort to exploit its abilities to teach you. Try smoking by yourself and contemplating things in your head. You will find that with a little work Marijuana can go from a social drug to an enlightening teacher.

Now i must also stress that with daily use, marijuana will become more akin to a cigarette, in that it will no longer be an experience, but just a habit. Marijuana should be used as long as you have control over addiction, approx. 2-3 times a week.

Bottom line: use it for legitimate purposes, but not to the point where it becomes a habit. Be sensible and intelligent about your decisions.

And who's to say that you can't develop a habit of smoking and taking advantage of the education possibilities of cannabis, every day? Who's to say that, just because you form a habit with cannabis, that it has to be a bad one?

I am not saying that a daily marijuana habit cannot be fulfilling. What I am saying is that daily use tends to lead to a high that is not as rewarding as the bi/tri weekly use. On top of that, it is my observation that as a tolerance develops, a high that is educational is harder to achieve. I also find that I need to time to live while not high, as to fully appreciate its effects.

If you are already a daily smoker, and you find that to better suit you, then go ahead and smoke; I don't want to stop you from having fun. But if you are a beginner, then you should not automatically adopt a daily smoking habit, but instead use marijuana for a purpose which is greatly overlooked, enlightenment.

I always take breaks for the same reason, always good to drop tolerance every once in a while, a day here and there not smoking never hurt Good Advice for beginners, nice post

gobstopper, I agree that getting high can make you more receptive and teach you things about yourself, but frequency of smoking is too much of a personal thing.

For me, smoking pot is a part of everyday life. The first time I smoked it was like you describe, a journey of self-discovery, but now i see it more as relaxation therapy. I tend to get my epiphanies from other drugs, but im not talking about those here

My point is, our beloved herb affects everyone differently. Whether you smoke a gram a week or an ounce, remember that that's YOUR choice and the amount you're spending/smoking might not necessarily be right for everybody.

And be thankful that you can even get your hands on some bud...I'm coming off a terrible week-long drought and probably wont be able to smoke until tomorrow
