    Scouting Grow Spots Indoors

so i am trying to find a place in my house to do my next harvest, which will be my first indoor, and second overall grow.

i have two very large basements, and was guessing one of them would work out fine. but since the basements are dirt floors, i would have to build an actual room with a floor.
on second thought, since the basement is dirt, do you think i would be able to dig holes in the ground, put good soil in, and plant them directly into the ground? sounds like a strange idea, but i don't see why it wouldn't work. i would have to enclose it, but there is plenty of fresh air down there, so circulation would not be a problem.

what does everyone think? what should i do?

I would worry about mold and other parasites planting in the dirt floor of a cellar.
I would also worry about humidity etc.

ya, the ground probably would'nt be the best idea.

but for the humidity, i don't think that will be a problem at all. there are a bunch of ventilation holes on the walls so there is a constant breeze of fresh air flowing through the basement.

what do you think about enclosing a Rainforest 66 Aeroponics System in the basement with maybe a 600w HPS? would 600w be enough?

any input would be great. i havent done an indoor grow yet, so anything anyone can point out will help me out a bunch

heres a picture of the rainforest 66

    That looks like a plan!
But, then, anything beats gopher wars.

You can probably just set it on the dirt and pour a ring of salt around it, (Stops slugs n snails. Use a fence for the puppydog tails.)
If you have to be away for a while, the Rainforest will play nanny.

Mo' betta to talk to 'em everyday.
Only corn has ears, but "tomatos", enjoy the extra CO2.

    600 Watts!?
    "Smoke 'em if ya gottem".
('Lectric is not cheap in HI.)

I'll be watchin' this grow, I hope.

    Good luck

The dirt floor will be a breeding ground for thrips, harbor airborne pathogens, and be a source of humidity. You need to at the very least, cover it with a tarp.

If you have never grown indoors before, I don't recommend starting with that system, especially since you do not have a mother plant yet. Read the link in my siggy about starting a soil grow from scratch. You will want to start by choosing your mother out of your first crop, and mothers are very easy to keep in soil. Then when you know how to grow better, you take clones from those mothers and put them in whatever system you like.

Virtually all hydro systems that come pre-fab like that are not suited for flowering from seed.

    thanks for stopping by stinky!

i was originally going to start some blueberry seeds i got from dutch passion, but than was leaning towards getting some clones from a local medi-dispensary.
i will hold off on the rainforest system until i get the hang of indoor cultivation, but after that, im going to try to get the system, or at least something similar to it. i was also thinking about getting the system, and altering it with a fogger instead of just regular hydroponics.
but i'll take your advice stinky, and start up a crop, choose my mother(s), and see where to go from there.

    thanks again for the input

    Aloha Gianca.

    Short question.
When you say "Basement", do you mean California underhouse, semi open, bone dry between the stilts type?
Or do you have a standard, damp, cool, dark east coast type basement?

here are a few pictures of one of the basements. the first two was where i was first thinking of putting the plants, but i think the third picture is the best spot. of coarse, i would have to clear it out of all the junk, but i think it would work out as a good spot to have a few plants going at a time.

    what do you all think?
