I've been to A-dam once, but I was active duty military and couldn't enjoy the pleasures. Me 'n some friends are planning a trip (thinking October). Any suggestions are welcome.

I can't say enough about how amazing that city is :stoned: I also could never recommend enough things to do and see.
If you are doing the coffeeshop crawl, as most do , I highly highly highly recommend grabbing a cup of coffee, some smoke, and heading up to the 3rd floor of The Bushdoctor. Tiny ass shop, and the stairway will have you like :wtf3: Downstairs at The Dolphins is pretty sweeet too.
After that, I can't remember where it is exactly... but find the freaking cart that sells the waffles with like frosting on them. Gaaad dammnnnnn.... shit is soooo good. I would straight up get out of bed and leave my hotel at 2am to go grab one. Strawberry frosted... or maybe it was cherry? Woah, pointless suggestion because I have no idea where it is, but I want one now!!!
Finally, don't spend ALL of your time in coffeeshops. They are absolutely out of this world, but the city is pretty damn incredible too. You don't want to wake up on your last day and have done nothing but smoke your brains out.
Oh, and be prepared to dream/nightmare about Amsterdam. I have this dream where I'm in a city... or basically anywhere... and then I think "Hey, this must be Amsterdam, so I'll find the nearest coffeeshop." Then I proceed to walk the city for hours trying to find one. Then, after an eternity, I finally arrive at one... and wake up

Don't miss the Reich Museum and Van Gogh Museum. There's an interesting Red Light district, but you don't have to do anything there but look, lol. The Marijuana museum was also fun. I think that there's a big seed bank connected with that.
You can hop on a train and visit other cities, like Utrecht, which also have coffee shops. I don't remember everything, since it's been a while, but Holland is a very pleasant country to visit.

I lived in Holland for 12 years and can say with confidence that it is a fantastic place.

Thanks for the suggestions. I guess I'm not a very educated pothead:stoned: but I like to smoke as good as I can afford, ya know? But I don't really know the difference in the different varieties, I guess what I'm asking is, what kinds of weed should I make sure not to miss, what to start with, what NOT to start with....lol....
Gonna try to make the cannabis cup. Anybody been? Do you remember it?:rastabong:

I've never been, but I'd like to go soon. The Cup is in November, by the way. I'm going to try to go this year. That'd be incredible.
Super Silver Haze was rated one of (if not the) best buds in the cup. Gotta give that a try.
I've heard a lot of good things about Barneys. Gotta hit that place up.

BUT....
Be prepared to throw all that shit out of the window. It's a really easy city to get around, but you will most likely get lost 3 times per day :stoned:, which will take you off of your course.
As for what types to try? Don't worry too much about that. They have menus in the coffeeshops with all sorts of characteristics to make your decision. Everything from taste, high, price, etc. is described for you. Remember... these guys do this for a living! They are MORE than helpful when trying new things. Especially the hash, since (in my experience) many Americans know MUCH more about bud than hash. And you DO NOT want to miss out on the hash!!
I agree with the suggestions of the Reich and Van Gogh museums. Even if it is just to say you did something that didn't involve  (although... being high is a great way to enjoy the Van Gogh shit)
Oh, and mine was specifically a High Times cruise, but try to get on a smoke friendly canal boat. Soooooo sweeeet!!! It is a great way to relax and view the city. I highlight "smoke friendly," because you really have to respect the culture over there. Yes, Cannabis is tolerated and you will see police walk by while you puff off of a vaporizer/bong/joint and you WON'T be arrested. Although, this doesn't mean you can go anywhere and light up. Some restaurants will let you smoke respectfully... but ASK FIRST!
Lastly, I do recommend the Cannabis Cup for anyone that desires to experience it. I would not suggest that someone with limited money, or someone that isn't a full time, dedicated :rasta: do it. It can be very expensive when trying to judge ALL of the entries. Because yes, contrary to popular belief... if you have a judge's pass you DO have to buy the bud you judge. You will get free shit, and it is a very cool experience... but if I were to go again, it would simply be to enjoy the city. You don't have to be a High Times judge to have an amazing time in Amsterdam. Sometimes, since you are steering away from the "popular" shops (or basically the ones that are able to donate about a pound of bud and free souvenirs to enter the Cup) you are able to find those gems tucked back away from the tourists. Those are the REAL places to find.

I would have to say that anyone going to Nederland just for the smoke should really just stay at home, the difference in weed isn't that varied to warrant the cost of the ticket..
It is such a waste to go to one of the friendliest , prettiest and most fantastic places on earth simply to spend all your time shitfaced.
Get out and about and experience as much as you can , it is such an amazing place and even after having lived there for 12 years I still discover something new each time I go.
If you get the time Bevewijks Zwarte Markt is well worth a visit.

[quote=TheMetal1]You'll be fine as long as you know the code and the handshake
LOL......I gotta find someone to show me the secret handshake.........:hippy:
I was stationed in Belgium for a year in the late 80's and I'm really looking forward to going back to Europe for a couple weeks. I fully intend to get out and see (and eat choclolate and drink beer) as much as I can. I also intend to get :smokin:. I've done the canal boat trip before, but not baked. Sounds like fun. Haven't smoked hash since the 70's so that'll be an experience:thumbsup:
Anyone heard of TheRookies hotel and coffeehouse? Thought about renting a houseboat, but saw this place on the web and it looked interesting.

Next time I go to Amsterdam, I want to go by myself in the summer, rent a bicycle and just ride around! Other thing I advise you, don't go in the winter, you'll freeze your balls off!
