What's a good typing speed?
What kind of WPM should I aim for if I'm looking to get hired for a job doing a lot of typing? My last test Gross Speed was 42 WPM Errors 10 words Net Speed 37 WPM Accuracy 88%. I think those are pretty pathetic for the amount of time I spend on the computer. To test yourself go to http://www.typingtest.com/contents/j...st/default.htm I think 60 WPM would be a good goal for me. Anyone know what speed businesses usually look for?

What kinda job is it for? I think around 70 is ideal for most. Here's my results:
Test name = Huckleberry Finn
Gross speed = 101 WPM
Errors = 4 Words
Net speed = 97 WPM
Accuracy 96%
Not too shabby, eh?

wow your good west coast style. Well it's actually a job at http://www.workingsol.com I just applied and I'm hoping to get hired, but that may not be anytime soon I hear some cases of people being hired there 2 years after they put in there apps. so it may take a long time before I get my job, better go find another one in the meantime.

if you guys are getting like 60-100 wpm then youre probably not touch typing.. when youre applying for a job theyll probably want someone who can touch type, aswell as reading something at the same time

Are you trying to go into Data Entry?
They pay very nicely if you can get to 90+ WPM, and 95%. 35-40K a year for that speed. But as ghost pointed out, it's not only typing, it's eye-hand coordination as well.
But business expect only 40-60 WPM otherwise. It really depends on the position. A network administrator, or positions similar, they would expect you to have a high WPM.Happiness only real when shared
