Obama Removes American Flag from Campaign Plane

I'm pretty sure the reason that Obama changed the American flags (at least the tail one) was because of that specific logo is a registered trademark of North American Airlines, which is or was the owner of the plane. Since Obama is preparing for the general election... he and his campaign re-designed the plane to display his slogan. If they purchased the plane, which I assume they did, that particular image of North American Airlines would need to be removed. Now... why he didn't replace it with another flag? I don't know or really care. I'm pretty sure he is not the first candidate to NOT have an American flag on the tail.

probably because his slogan is red white and blue enough to be considerably american.

The flag-on-the-plane situation is like the folks who make a big deal of flag lapel pins as a symbol of patriotism or someone's political stance as the same thing. Politically it's a non-issue unless you're trying really hard to make it an issue, as many of you clearly are. You who, incidentally, seem scared to death of Obama. You wouldn't be flailing this hard or this loudly if you weren't.

Daihashi, if you want to look at political egos, take a look at the reports of McCain's ego by the VA psychiatrists who've evaluated him over the years. They've commented on the powerful overinflation of his ego every single time, as he enjoys joking about and pointing to when he points out what motivated him to run for president. You may want to create an issue over Obama's ego, but I think that may reflect more on your desire to make this an issue about him. You're still quite young, so you've not spent much time around politicians. It takes a huge ego for someone to want that job--no matter what side of the aisle they're on. Look at Ross Perot. Look at George W. Bush. Ron Paul. John McCain. Barack Obama. They've all got it, and no one can make a case that one of them's bigger than another. You very much want to, clearly. But if you tested the egos of presidential egos, you'd see they're equally big. They pretty much have to be. You have to be ego-nuts to want that job, frankly.

If you want to look at McCain's political ego then let's look back during the 2000 elections when he got alot of favorable attention from the media, and let's look at him now and his campaign ad's that make him seem like a kid when mommy's not paying attention to them.

I'm aware of all politicians and their ego's. I would never argue against it. I think I probably made a poor choice by saying ego. I would describe Obama as Narcissistic with a huge ego. You have to admit the guy seems to really be full of himself. Granted I don't want a president who lacks confidence but I don't want someone else who thinks they are gods gift to us. Whether Obama means to present himself that way or not, he comes off that way to me. I thought so during the Democratic Primaries and I still think so now.

They all come off that way to me. I think the election process and all the fawning, adoring crowds just make it worse. I have to think that this is what gets them into Bill Clinton-like zipper trouble, too. The power. The adoration. The idea that they're not going to be held to the same standards that a normal person would or that they can get away with stuff. The power is very seductive.

I worked for a lot of years doing speechwriting for CEOs at a big international company. Those top executives literally made multi-millions and everyone fawned over them and did their every bidding at every turn. It was the rare C-level Fortune 100 executive or board member who didn't think he was God incarnate, and that was because people literally treated them like that.

The same thing seems to happen to politicians. It's sad, really, because that power-factor really seems to separate them from the people they're supposed to represent.

We do have a few good representatives in congress. Look at Mr. Ron Paul for example. It's just unfortunate that we don't have enough of them in congress to turn this country around.

I agree. We do have some good ones. And I'm not one of those who thinks all politicians are crooked or in it for the wrong reasons. I couldn't get through the day successfully if I believed that. I think many of them truly are motivated by public service, and I know it seems like we're often stuck in gridlock, but I think that's the nature of a two-party system.

The truth is we actually balance each other out in a complementary fashion. Politicians and folks who work with them are at peace with this fact and recognize that the two factions have to work together in order to achieve progress. It's the folks who're not so close to the process who get stuck in the polarity.

Thanks to those of you who've been helping keep this area of these boards focused on civil, real discussion instead of silly, childish insults. These boards have been a full-time job tonight! Must be the summertime heat.

    sigh.........
But electing our president isnt just about weed. Think about it, why would we want someone in charge who is spending a huge amount of money in a stupid way? I mean, I don't care if he takes of the American flag or whatever...its his plane...but hes using his campaign money to do it? come on now. You would vote for him just because he says hes gonna end federal raids on medical users? And by the way, i think he can still redeem himself....if he allows everyone who gave him their money to take one ride in the plane

    Agreed.

Electing a president because he/she is pro-marijuana is like buying a car soley because of the color.

It's important but other things should be the main priority. Things like the war, oil, the huge deficit, taxes, amendment issues, etc..
