so ya im new to growing and im having troble ble germinating my plants. I put the seeds in a containerand inside a paper towel and drenched the whole thing with water and them put it over my heater. The seeds sprouted a little root about 3 millimeters long. I planted them in jiffy pots that hold about two cups of mirucle grow potting soil, and placed the pots above the heater again to keep em warm is it to hot or sumthing?? I kept them well wateredbut only one of the four actually broke the surface and later died!! What am i doing wrong?? Any suggestions would be helpful!!

a good germination method is you get a cloth towel and drench it with pure water, then you get a tray with a heat pad beneath it, and set the wet cloth with the seeds on it, into the tray. put a piece of cardboard over the tray, this will keep in all the heat! almost all the seeds will germinate within 24 hours!

start them in the jiffy pellets. The jiffys have got all the nutrients that the seeds need,u dont have 2 start them the paper towel method with the pellets.
Soak the pellets for a few seconds in ph adjusted water 5.8ph.When the pellet sinks to the bottom of the water take them out and give them a squeeze
and remove about 10% of the water.Make a small hole in the top, only a couple of mm and only slightly cover the seed(the seeds only have a small amount of energy @ this point).and place in a propergator & cover. Place in an airing cuboard or dark warm place.as soon as they pop up place under lights or in direct sun light. remember that they will not need ferterlizing 4 about a month in jiffy pellets, cos the pellets have got all the nutrients they need.
    Good luck keep us posted

ive never heard of anybody who used nutruients to germinate their seeds, ur not suppost to give seedlings nutrients for weeks, so y would u give them nutrients for germinating. Itd probably fuck up the roots from nutrient burn.

DONT OVER WATER THE PLANTS! too much water is bad, they dont really need to be watered in the first week anyway. you probably drown them.

Your not giving them nutrients cos its already in the jiffy pellets. The pellets are made from peat which is soil and thats got all the food the seedling needs for about a month. These pellets are made for starting seeds and is another alternative from using rock wool.

    germination problems!!

    Hi Gnomy,

I start my seeds direcly in soil in a 16 ounce cup that I have saturated with distilled water. Soak the seeds directly in a glass of distilled water for 24 hours. Sometimes they will sprout in the water. Using a pencil eraser to make a hole about 1/4" deep, drop in a seed (handle seeds with tweezers) and cover lighly with soil. Put a plastic sandwhich bag over each and leave it on for 8-10 days. That will prevent the soil from drying out. If you have a warmer put the cups on it. Or put them on your fridge.

Once they have sprouted I use plastic tubing to inflate the bag once or twice a day. This adds moisture and CO2. The same method works for clones (bury at least one node) as well.

My recent seeds went 5 for 5.

    regards,

    Wizbin
