I would agree that cannabis does indeed have the potential for addiction, depending on how broadly you apply the term. Anything that you greatly enjoy on a daily basis can be "addicting", or habbit forming, because the brain tends to like routines. The longer you reinforce a behavior, the harder it is to break that pattern of behavior. Likewise, this is why when anti-drug advocates point to "marijuana addiction", it's totally bunk. These factors that people face sound real scary, until you realize how broadly they factor in.

By the addiction-criteria presented here and by anti-cannabis groups elsewhere, simply not being able to stop a pattern of behavior can apply all over the place. There are millions of people who can't stop watching television, playing video games, eating junkfood, self-injuring, having indiscriminate sex, watching porn, running, or listening to music. I personally have found it more difficult to stop listening to music than any other drug I've been on. Quite seriously, when I realized I was bored of all my music, I've tried many a times to stop listening and I still can't make it through a whole day. Behaviors, mindstates, habbits; these all have powerful "addiction" potential when the term is used too loosely.



As for your brain turning to mush BrainDamaged, why do I feel a bit skeptical? You seem more than capable of articulating your thoughts in a fully coherent manner, and your very username would suggest that you have an agenda to push. If you really are suffering from brain damage, though, the very fact that you smoked marijuana does not prove that marijuana caused your issues. Take any group of people enjoying any substance from coke to coca-cola, and you can pick out some with mental issues and say "see! Coca-Cola gave him brain damage!"
