Open, un-walled growing with CFLs (no box)
Anyone had any personal experience?
The picture is one my friend in another country (where good grow lighting is very hard to find) took of his hashplant. I lost contact and didn't get to ask about whatever lighting he managed to find.
Anyway, would it be possible to grow in the open like that, say with strip of four or six 20-40watt CFLs hanging an inch or two above the plants. Hopefully the paint file is understandable, I have no drawing skills whatsoever.
Certainly not advocating this as a good method, just wondering exactly how many lumens one loses when they don't put up a shield of mylar or have an enclosed grow box, or have a reflector above the lights, etc. If the loss is minimal, perhaps an extra bulb or 2 would compensate. Could be a solution if one is experiencing massive heat problems, a last resort method for heat problems perhaps?
And yes, I know it is easy to grow openly with HID lighting, this is just about CFLs. And yes, CFLs are much cooler than most bulbs, but heat issues can still be a problem.
