Obama Campaign Accepts Commission Debates, but Not McCain Town Halls
ABC Newsâ?? David Wright and Sunlen Miller report: The Obama campaign has accepted a proposal by the Commission on Presidential Debates for three presidential debates and one vice presidential debate to be held in September and October.
The decision was announced in a letter sent today from Obama campaign manager David Plouffe to the commissionâ??s chairmen, Frank Fahrenkopf and Paul Kirk.
The Obama campaign has appointed Rep. Rahm Emanuel, D-Ill., to meet with the commission and the McCain campaign to determine the specifics.
But what about those weekly town halls proposed by John McCain? Donâ??t hold your breath.
â??Itâ??s unlikely weâ??ll see anything other than the commissioned debates,â?ť Obama spokeswoman Linda Douglass said, adding that the time is short between now and November.
Douglass added that the McCain campaign didnâ??t respond to the Obama campaign's counterproposals for the town halls.
"We really haven't gotten a response to our counteroffer, so now we agreed to the debates," Douglass said. "[McCain's has] made it pretty clear that he's not interested in a real dialogue and has just gone down the low road, so it's not a good use of our time."
Political Radar: Obama Campaign Accepts Commission Debates, but Not McCain Town Halls
Obama's strength is at long speeches....not debates as proven during the primarys. Pretty obvious why he's only agreeing to the three.
I propose to BOTH candidates three sessions on "To Tell The Truth". Hook these suckers up to the lie detector and we'll find out where they REALLY stand on the issues.
