Shockingly, Bush is gaining a lot more respect from me as he nears the end of his term.
Pelosi turning the lights out on them? They should be out campaigning in their home state, where some of the republican seats are in jeopardy. You are right in the fact it's merely symbolic if you'd thought they all the sudden halt discussions. No one is taking a leisure vacation. It gives both parties more time to research to fully assess the current crisis. It's not a decision to be rushed, given that gas prices for the moment have dropped with Bush's announcement.

The energy policy needs both parties cooperating and working together to develop the policy. Both parties proposed good ideas and will need a combination of opening land for drilling and coaxing oil companies to make it a priority to research alternative energies. Here drill some oil in exchange of starting an aggressive campaign to research and standardize alternative energy. We managed to get to the moon with such an aggressive focus, it'd be bullshit if it can't be done for a new source of fuel.
