    Cords of Extension...

Looking to wire a 6" in-line duct fan to an extension cord.
It's just one of those Suncourt 250 CFM inlines. Fan doesn't list the wattage, but my cord is a 14 gauge Medium Duty 15 AMP 125V 1875 max watt.

Long story short, I have no problem with @ home wiring due to a history of sound equipment installation... but I want to be sure that my devices are going to shake hands when the juice runs through them. It's just with this project there are less "in-store" professionals to discuss the specifics (obviously :stoned

On a side note... I found an attractive room/room fan online at Home Depot. I went into the store to ask if they do "To-Store," shipping... well... she said that they are completely different companies and have no interaction between one another, so the items that they offer online are not available in the store. Directly behind her was a huge sign advertising their ability to "Special Order over 40,000 items." I asked her to look up if they had anything that resembled the item I viewed online.......... Nope. Does this make zero sense to everyone else too? I understand the inability to ship warehouse to store (somewhat :wtf but to claim to be independant of the online store is really confusing. Anyone have advice to either the important question... or the rant question?

HomeDepot is in financial problems for a reason. Poor management. Yeah I've seen those room to room fans. They look like they would work pretty good.

First we got a Walmart... then we got a Lowe's... then we got a Home Depot.

I went to Walmart... it was packed
I went to Lowe's... it was packed
I went to Home Depot (which is only a year old)... like 10 people in it.
The employees outnumbered the customers like 20:1. That is not even including the potential for Loss Prevention workers, monitoring the 3-4 security cameras per aisle, behind the scenes. They had 1 actual cashier working... and like 8 self checkouts. For the 8 self checkouts they had 4-5 workers just standing there with some sort of card and scanner ready to assist anyone (mainly EVERYONE :stoned using the self checkout. I chose the cashier because I like watching humans work  3 employees were seriously 6 feet away as she bagged up my stuff and gave me my receipt (which I put into my wallet.) I take 4 steps and the amazing orange smocked trio wants me to show them my receipt so that they can circle the items and do the whole "verify what you just bought is what's in the bag," deal. I wanted to be like:
"You all just awkwardly watched me and the cashier handle this transaction and I seriously made eye contact with all 3 of you. Now not ONE of you could have mentioned that I should keep my receipt out?"
If there is one thing I hate it is holding a bunch of bags and digging into my ass pouch to dig through 9 billion pieces of paper so that I can show a group of people evidence of something that they just witnessed.
Besides, if they really want to know if I walked out of there with something I didn't pay for....
Check the muthafunkin tapes son!! :stoned:
Lord knows they had 2 dudes beaming those black orb cameras straight onto me as soon as I walked in.

Camera guy #1: Oh my god... we've got a code 7
    Camera guy #2: Umm... wait... what's a code 7
Camera guy #1: There is a guy with tattoos in the fan section
Camera guy #2: Holy fuck... we trained for this dude.
Camera guy #1: I know!!! Now do as we were taught and wait to see if those things beep when he walks out... if they do... call the police!!

Sorry... what is this thread about again?

ya dude 14 gauge wire would be fine to wire up the fan with. Using a lower guage wire from the power source into a higher gauge wiring from the fan as long as both are rated at same voltage is fine. (in other words a thicket wire from the source of power to a thinner wire of the fan) The fan will only draw as many amps from the source as it is designed to. you get into problems when the use of a smaller wire runs from the power supply a larger wire becuase the smaller wire can't handle the amperage drawn by the bigger wire. hope this helps

and by both rated at same voltage i mean the breaker and the fan... most 14 gauge wire is rated at 300V maximum

Inline duct fans don't draw diddly and I've always wired them with a 'power tool replacement cord' rated for 12A. It's still overkill, but you can't beat the convenience.
    Don't forget your wire nuts!

Forgot about this thread. Thanks for taking the time everyone :hippy:

Yeah, I've had my business handled for some time now. Fans running like a top. It's for a very small space so it's working perfectly, but if anyone is looking to this thread for future info... don't plan on an efficiently functioning carbon scrubber. These fans just don't got the juice.

And yeah... I was really :stoned: when my girlfriend brought me to the Casa DePot with my wiring supply list. I bought like 3 different sized bags of wire nuts (two bags ended up being the same kind... I only needed 3 actual wire nuts for the project), some of that shrink tube (which I had no use for because it's for a different type of connection), a timer that only sets by Day not Hour which I need to return, and I spent like 20 minutes looking for differences in the various types of electrical tape. Oh, and some zip ties for LST... which didn't work because they were too short.

Total shit show... haha. I'm with stupid :rasta:

hahaha...i'm exactly the same. I always think "they have to know why i'm buying this shit". Who else digs through poorly marked CFL packages looking for lumen ratings?
