Cucamonga Peak - California
Hey guys! Just wanted to share a trip I took with a good friend of mine two weeks ago. You may know this man, for he used to frequent this site quite a bit. This man was none other than geonagual!
He contacted me about this 14mile round-trip, 4000ft elevation gain trek in the San Bernardino county. This place is awesome!!
I left San Diego on Friday the 18th, I believe it was, and headed north towards geo's residence. I got there around 8 PM, said hi to his family, did some more groceries, packed our stuff, then got stoned while talking about our adventure. Well, wouldn't you know, we, two crazy stoners, decided to leave right away instead of the morning. It was a full moon that night, so why not? With that in mind, we left around 10:30PM.
We basically started our hike at midnight with a full moon blasting down the mountains. We barely even needed our flashlights! After approximately 4 and a half hours of walking straight up with a heavy packpack on our backs, we decided to set up camp at Icehouse Canyon Saddle. There, geo quickly set up his one man tent and threw our food up a tree, in case of bears. I set up my hammock next to his tent, and fell asleep to the sounds of the night.
In the morning, we smoked some more (we smoked the whole time, so I won't even bother mentioning it every time :thumbsup
, then walked for about 3 more hours before reaching the top. The views were amazing, and so were the scents of pine trees. We hung out all day atop the peak, eating cheap, light foods, making up games with stones and sticks, balancing rocks, smoking, and we even took a nap. When the sunset came, the whole sky was on fire. Speaking of which, we made a fat, beautiful, raging fire as well.
I won't even talk about the night up there. Geo was a bit cold I think, and I literally did not sleep at all because of that and the 60mph wind gusts. hahah
Anyhow, with a breakfast of kings after finishing up the hike in the morning, it was nothing but an extraordinary weekend. More to come!
Geo says hi by the way guys!

I know this thread is a bit old now, but just wanted to say it looks like a great trip! Did the weed help you see in the dark for the night hike? Sometimes it feels like that to me --- full moon and a few hits, and I can see in the dark like it's mid afternooon. Good to hear from you guys again. Pass on regards to Geo.
After participating in a few threads with you guys about backpacking, I realized how much I missed it. It's been about 10 years. So I hooked up with some freinds who go for weekender trips pretty often, got my gear back together and did a couple of trips with them this summer. Next week we are doing a overnighter in the Sierras. I want to do one snow trip this winter. Next spring, a few longer trips. And hopefully a full-blown Sierra trek next summer --- a week or more, like I used to do. Thanks for the inspiration!
