    New Micro Set-up

whats up cann.com - if ya didn't know im just about to finish my first indoor grow inside a PC case. all went well, but I am ready to build a new setup.

The box is going to be about 26-30" tall, 12 " wide, and 25-30" long. I was originally going to construct this out of wood, but lack the tools to bore out exhaust/intake holes. So, I decided to give Styrofoam a go. The real thick Styrofoam, which would be real easy, with a sharp knife, to cut out all needed holes. The whole side will open up on hinges, and the door will have weather stripping. I want it to be 100% light safe, So if i have to line the inside with panda plastic, so be it. It will also be on casters, so i can move it with ease

Going to do a SOG, 10 plants. 12/12 a week from rooting clones. I will be using CFLs again, except 100 watters instead of 23. about 8 of them.

    Couple of questions-

Do you think the Styrofoam is plausible/a good idea? Will it hold heat in?

I can either set up 3-4 large intake pc fans and a strong exhaust into carbon filter, or just set it up passive intake?

I am going to be using either grobags or some kind of bottle (figi) as pots to maximize plant count. 75% perlite, 25% coco

well thats all I can think of right now. except the nutes, which I plan on using monkey juice a/b, gravity, hammerhead, sweet/molasses

    any ideas/suggestions/criticisms wanted!

the only thing I would change is the Styrofoam.

cuz I built a Styrofoam grow box a few years ago. It was 3 feet tall by 2 1/2 feet wide and 2 feet deep. and it burned cuz 1 of the 9 cfl light was tuching it and then fire happend.

now I use the huge rubber tubs as a grow box.

well good luck on ur new project.

    New Micro Set-up

I have almost completed my new box built from styrofoam. everything went extremely smooth, easy to work with and cut, gorilla glue and long screws held it together nicely. All I am waiting on is my new exhaust coming tomorrow.. temps are a little hot right now with just pc fans (3 intaking, 1 exhausting) but the new fan should work great in conjunction w/ current ones. used vanity fixtures and it is mounted perfectly to prevent cfls from touching the foam. also lined the inside with white poster board and sealed all corners with reflective tape. outside will be spray painted black to help with its slight 'glow.' built a hinging door out of styrofoam and weather stripping with hooks and eyes to apply pressure. all these had to be gorilla glued in

sorry for the paragraph just though id post back with my experience building a box from this material. ill post a couple pictures soon

not sure i would be 100% comfortable with a styrofoam box with lights in it but hey, if you don't think it'll burn anything, such as your house, good luck buddy

Probably should of bolded this as I do not condone using styrofam if it is not safely constructed. The lights will never touch the foam, ever. they are hard mounted and are cool to the touch. styrofoam holds 200 degree coffee, and as long as the lights do not make contact, I believe it is perfectly safe

maybe you could write a log and show the setup?

sounds creative and yes using cfls may be the only option here but maybe a large cooler or box could be of good use with this method, possibly provide more space and air flow with the right intake/exhaust system
