Embryonic Stem Cell Breakthrough
Featured in last night's episode of Nova Science Now:
Stem Cell researchers have figured out a way to create Stem Cells from Mature Cells.
The way the DNA of a cell works is (Short Story) Everything roots from the Stem Cell State, meaning that a stem cell can essentially be programmed into any cell it wants to be whether it's, liver, skin, neural, etc. Everything has a specific "programmed" portion inside of their mature DNA.
What Stem Cell researchers have accomplished is that they have been able to manipulate mature cells using a somewhat "infection" technique.
The way it works is this:
1.) They inject Stem Cell proteins into a virus shell
2.) They introduce the Stem Cell Virus to an environment of mature cells (a.k.a. - blood, skin, brain, etc.)
3.) The infection process then takes place in which the mature programmed cells basically reverse and De-program BACK into stem cells!
4.) They then can use these generated stem cells the same way they would sue embryonic stem cells, because there are no physical or operational differences
So, in a nutshell, doctors now have an accessible cure for such diseases such as Sickle Cell Anemia, Brain Stem defects, etc. All through the use of grown stem cells that weren't extracted from an embryo or fetus.
Thus, ending the controversial problems about using unborn humans as a resource. We'll just make them now...stem cells that isSunnyD Reviewed by SunnyD on . Embryonic Stem Cell Breakthrough
This technique has actually been known for a little while now. Which is odd; you would think something like this would have gotten wide spread coverage but the news media will only report on something dramatic or controversial.
Cures don't help the ratings I guess.
An ex g/f of mine had a procedure very similar to this done by a doctor out of California. Unfortunatley due to the legality they had to fly down to Mexico so he could perform the service.
She will never be fully cured since she has MS but her recovery has been amazing. She has to go back once every couple of years (due to the nature of her disease). She's gone from a very sedentary person to being very active and alive again. Not to mention much of her nerve pain has been alleviated.

It's so awesome!
Hopefully one of my best friend's father will be able to have this procedure done to help cure his ALS...
