    Hey Medigrower,

Ive been away from these boards for quite some time.Had a knock and talk, pretty scary stuff.Anyway on the cloner,if you check this board and others you will find plenty of info on how to diy.I would suggest you read everything you can get your hands on,then decide on a plan of action.I built what ended up being a 84 site cloner in a 35 gal.rubbermaid storage tote.Including tools that I had to buy for this project I ended up spending about $130.00 or so,compare that to what a store bought unit runs.

Ive used both store bought and diy cloners and Ill share one of the biggest differences and advantages of a diy system. An example: I have a 45 site cloner that is all white and cheaper than the ez clone machines. The problem I see with these systems is that they have very few nozzles and this generates a fairly forceful spray with a 125 gph pump.I dont have the unit in front of me but I think this unit has about 12 180 degree sprayers in a 10 gal.container.Please feel free to correct me if Im wrong on the numbers as Im doing this from memory (which is tough for an old guy, haha). For me this produces a much too powerful spray. In my 35 gal unit (which is much bigger than I need)with 84 1 1/2 " sites I used over fifty 360 degree sprayers (probably closer to 60 sprayers) on a 360 gph pump (if memory serves) drilled into pvc. What I found is that the spray is much gentler and about as close to a "misted environment" as I think I can get.

Future improvements:I plan on buying 100 1 1/2" neoprene inserts as they are much thinner than the rolled up pipe insulation I am currently using. This allows for smaller scrappy cuttings to be used.I am in awe of how well this works,I have taken cuttings that just barely poke through the bottom and have them take and grow roots. There is no way I could get these cuttings to take place using traditional soil methods.I used to get almost 80% (actual number might be a bit lower) survival rate in the dirt with my clones. With my tubs I dont have exact numbers but it has to somewhere around 95-99% success rate.I can count the number of cuttings that didnt make it and most were due to my errors and/or mistakes during the process. For the most part if I can get the cutting to stick through the bottom of a neoprene/pipe fitting insert I can get it to root.Plus what takes weeks in dirt takes days in the cloner.

Now that I have the tools I need to make another tub Im sure I could build a similar sized tub for well under 100.00.The other thing I will mention is that anyone can do this.I have no particular skill with tools or a tape measure for that matter. Its much safer than ordering online,or going to the local store where the cops are staked out taking plate numbers.Everything you need is either at the hardware store or the pet store.Keep searching these forums as there is a wealth of quality information on diy projects, they have been an invaluable aid for me.Good luck to you, take care,be well, and most of all be safe.

Don't mean to steal the thead but I hope you got away from the knock and talk BS safe, Charles. I didn't. They had a warrant in their back pocket and I made them pull it out. 20 thousand bucks and about 4 months to go and I'm a free man. LOL

    As the guru Pitka says

If your free and you know it,
    Think again.
