A couple of questions
Hello Everyone!
This is my first time posting here and I want to thank everyone, before anything else, for putting all their time and energy into helping poor "newbies" understand and not kill these incredible power plants.
I am writing for a "friend"as they are not very computer savvy and do not live in the US and not sure how to post photos. They sent these and asked me to put these questions forward. This is the first time they've grown outdoors.
These plants have been outside, in planters, since they were about 6 weeks old. There are four of them. It appears at least two females and perhaps two males. One is just an unknown quantity. The "females" are approximately 3' tall. One has really, really thin leaves. More thin than the others. (image 11) Can the same seed produce such different looking plants?
They have been put in "Expert" organic soil and home grown compost which has cooked for a couple of years and contains many beneficial insects/bugs and anything you throw into it grows out of the ceiling.
Recently they were repotted into 10 galloon pots with miracle grow organic potting soil, NOT garden soil, which is recommeded for container growing and is foliar feeded daily with "Garden Safe" fertilizer, 5, 3, 1.
The male, tall one, 6' (image 5) is really growing tall, big time and seems quite well. The other three are quite compact, squat.
Now, here's the questions. One some of these photos you can see a purple on the stem and now it appears the purple is starting on the top of the very new leaves. Is this normal? Does this mean they are starting to get ready to bud? When should the male be and how far away is far enough? Is one of these a hemophite(?). The real tall one. I am not knowledgable to really sex it for my "friend"at that time.
So are these plants OK? :wtf:And, does anybody know which strain this might be? My "friend" is growing this for a chronic pain condition. Does anyone know, by look, when the male should be moved?
On image 10, you can see where the purle leaves are starting? "They" thought it might be the start of the "buds"....Will they look like this when first starting? The buds?
Is this the time to move them?
Image 5 shows the male plant (and a male, 6' standing there). My "friend" really hopes this plant will soon flower as they want to at least pollinate one female cola for seed storage.
Sorry this message is so all over the place.
I can't thank you enough, all of you, for all your help. And I truly have researched, read and read some more for the answers to these specific questions before posting for "my friend". :wink:yourbestbud Reviewed by yourbestbud on . A couple of questions
Hello Again Everyone,
Just did some more digging and saw where it "annoys" everyone to ask "what strain this is"...I didn't realize there were so many different strains and it was impossible to tell from photos. I do believe this is mostly "indicas" because of the thin leaf structure. I was told (this is not "mine") that it does have a very nice "earthy" smell to it, but know no one can tell from the photos.
Sorry to pester everyone. Not my intention.

A couple of questions
The one with the very long, slender leaves looks very sativa to me.
IF you have identified males, and do not intend to make seeds, remove them right away.
I'm glad you re-potted, because that tall one is way too big for its britches! You frequently will see problems like micronutrient lockouts when the pot is too small for the plant, and/or the soil inside that pot has gone sour from all the lime being used up.
Welcome to the site, and don't worry about asking questions that you think are silly, because we've ALL been there at one point or another ~ lol!

A couple of questions
Thank you, Stinky (if that's OK to use)
for the reply! You're just terrific and I know from reading many, many other posts that you are the "expert" here (although I know you won't admit it). The time you dedicate to help us is just amazing!
I too belive strongly in the use of MJ for medicinal purposes. I have a dear friend who suffers terribly with bi-polar illness and has gone through the system so many times to get some help from medications that it's pure torture to see her go through it. I wish, so much, she could get her a very "mellowing" strain and use it. I have downloaded the awesome list of strains you put together and will definitely use this to help educate others!
So, (sigh) these are "Sativa's"! I don't know why they thought Indica's. Weird. I don't think the Sativa's are going to do "good" for pain relief. (If I have that straight). I think the Indica's are known for pain relieving and the Sativa are for mental health, albeit, most are hybrids.
Is it safe to assume, probably not, but I'll ask anyway, the thinner the leaf, the more it is Sativa?
Thanks again!
The plants are very healthy and have a tremendous smell to them. The owner says it makes his sinuses run each time he goes in there!
I've heard the leaves/stems on the lower branches are really turning a deep purple now. And he wants to pollinate at least one cola. That's why I was asking when he should move the "tree"! It seems to be the only male. All other's have the fine hairs (stolas?) coming out. I HAVE done a great deal of research! Thanks to the terrific people here.
I hope to someday be able to help other's here. Pay it back, as they say, for everything this board/forum has offered to my friends and myself.
