Help! Original genotypes needed

Hi there... I'm a plant geneticist / molecular biologist / biochemist who, amazingly enough, has been hired to work on the genetics of cannabanoid production. Now, I have this amazing experiment that I want to do, but I need the original genetic material that was collected from specific geographic locations (eg. Thailand, India, etc.). Are there any breeders who still have these lines on hand?? Most of the commercial sites seem to only carry modern hybrids that are bred for ridiculous THC content, whereas Iâ??m more interested in analyzing the genetic origins of the more obscure cannabanoids.

Sorry for posting this to the advanced techniques forum (when my question is really about strains), but I figured that those who read this forum would have a better idea where I can get these lines.

Why does the name AfroPips stand out in my menory? Google that, and also 'landrace cannabis seeds'.

We are not allowed to set up trades or sales on site, or ask for them, fyi. You'll need to go through an actual breeder. Those genetics ARE available; you'll just have to look around for them.

So... does your grant have anything budgeted for travel expenses? I see a trip to SE Asia in your future... lucky...

Hey... thanks Stinky. Yes, I did figure out that the terminology used is "landrace". Ah, good ole Schultes! I also manages to find an supplier that claims to carry exclusively landrace genetics, which is wonderful. Is it OK to enquire about certain seedbanks on this board?

Or, I could just tell my boss that I can't get anthing online. At least I may get a trip to NL to visit some breeders!

One other question... how does one actually contact the "good" breeders? I'm completely new to this game (as you may tell). However, with the work I'm planning to do, I think that some of the breeders would be very interesting in, say, having molecular markers to follow the chemotypes of certain strains that are useful for medical purposes.

Sure, if you have questions regarding a seedbank's reliability, post em up. Many seedbanks and breeders have their own forums on ICMag (owned by the same entitity that owns Seedboutique, Seedbay, and Nirvana) where they may be contacted directly. I think IC makes forums for the breeders whose product they distribute only, however. You may not find all the ones you are looking for, but it will be a start.

IMVHO... The Netherlands are not the place to start your search for pure landrace genetics... great for commercial hybrids and even medical strains, but since landrace stuff often is unsuitable for indoor growing... you may have to search closer to the actual source. But good luck; it sounds like excellent research material. Just out of curiosity- grant-funded university research or lab physically run by a pharma company?

Great... I'll check them out. The breeder I'm considering is called "World of Seeds"... they're carried by a number of different banks and therefore seem legit. I also like that they charactierze some of their lines by GCMS!

The lab is a government of Canada lab, believe it or not. Tax payer dollars at work...
