I got this plant from a friend for a mother and it looked good but is slowly getting worse (leaf edge browning). Thought someone in here might give me some ideas. Also I would like to put this plant in a 5 gallon DWC. Can someone tell me the proper way to go from soil to DWC without killing the thing if it is even possible?

Help with a new used plant.
Ph too low.
Soil salted.
Pot too small.
Go up to a 3 gallon bucket (same size as a kitty litter pail) with LOTS of drainage.
First, pour about 3 gallons of plain tap water through that pot and flush out all the nasty crap that has built up from using miracle grow. That is why the leaf edges are scorchy.
Next, let the soil dry out a bit, and prepare your new soil. You can use a good quality potting soil that has minimal added fertilizer, if any; I don't suggest using a pre-fertilized soil, ESPECIALLY with miracle grow, when you have evidence that your plant is already burnt. That being said, if all you have available is box stores, miracle grow organic soil with an extra bag of perlite mixed in works fine.
Make sure your new pot has really good drainage, and fill it with the new fluffly light soil to a level that will let you put the plant in there and have the base of the stem exactly even with the rim of the pot- the soil surface shoudl be within an inch of the pot rim. It WILL settle slightly over time.
When the plant is in its new home, give a light watering with a better fertilizer. This is a time when you can add ONE DROP of superthrive to the water if you have it. For a regular fert, try to find a specialty gardening shop that has an assortment of liquid fertilizers, or look online. The popular pot ferts are foxfarms, botanicare, canna, advanced nutrients, and a few others. Personally I like Botanicare Pure Blend Pro for beginners.
Good luck.

Bad move. It's already stressed, and messing with the roots to change its whole lifestyle is not going to make it happy. Get it back to health, take clones, and put THOSE in DWC.
